He scored a crucial goal just last week.

More importantly, the youngsters can be praised without us shitting on other players.

All forwards score goals. I would not back Gakpo at the moment to take a half chance at the death. That ponderous touch in the box was shockingly bad. Jota takes a touch and smashes it.

Two goals today and almost one in the final. Danns is banging on the door.

Two lads scored within an hour of starting for us this week, Joe has not managed a goal in 10 years and 230 odd games. I get the feeling someone has mentioned this in the dressing room because he's trying every game to get a shot in (but getting nowhere near). Not a problem because he was immense again tonight, when everyone is fit some good players are going to miss out. Joe has now shown he's got 5 positions so his chances are increasing by the day of not being one of those missing out.

How is our pitch so bad ? The amount of guys who slip is ridiculous.

Gakpo has scored in our last two league matches and came closer to scoring in the final. But whatever, no point comparing two of our own players.

It is. On the one hand, you want this to continue, on the other hand, you just want the lad to get one. And if he doesn't manage to nick one this season, the banter will be legendary as well. Nah Danns will probably spend another year in the academy then a loan to Championship before we can even think about having him as an integral part of the first team. If scoring a few goals is all it takes to be banging on the door then no team has to ever buy strikers anymore. Brewster was far more developed than that and look where he is now.

Nail on head. Cody does not need to 'learn' how to finish. He just needs to keep a cool head. I felt he led by example last night. The goals and assists will continue to flow.

Cody looked absolutely shattered is all.  He's had to play a lot of minutes the last 3 games which in comparison is like us working 10 straight 12hr shifts.

Give the lad a break FFS.

He’s certainly played his part this season and has been a very important player. Funny how a fair few here wanted to sell him saying he wasn’t good enough. Good job Jurgen keeps faith and gives players time to regain their form.
I was one of them people. I thought he was finished but he’s been fantastic. One of the players of the season. Just another timely reminder that I know fuck all about football!  :)

Joe Gomez is having a brilliant season but he was comedy gold at times as a holding midfielder, the amount of times Southampton broke and he was 30 yards behind the counter attack having a gentle stroll back into his own half, his positioning was understabdably terrible.

Thought Clark had a nice game and Danns did great, big win with so many out.

Got to say what a wonderful night for the youngsters as they must be in dreamland. Absolutely amazing stuff for the lads as they will be buzzing for weeks after this.

Southampton were excellent, honestly better than us in regards to playing out of their half and if they had a young Shearer up front for them again they be in a shoe in for top half of the Premiership. To be playing that type of football in the old Division 2 is nuts. Was really impressed and the likes of Utd could only dream of playing like that.

Anyway what a great night for the lads and hats off to our defence too as Caoimhe n Co are the rock right now as keeping our challenges going.

It's the first time he's played the position and Klopp also said there was little time to practice, so what exactly where you expecting? It's a always takes player a while to get used to a new position added to which he had two inexperienced boys either side of him, that he helped settle down. All the experienced lads more than helped the youngsters and as a result it showed in the fact that they couldn't always do everything to the same perfect standard as usual.

Yeah, it was nice, passing it on to each other as they walked around.

Gomez in the first half struggled positionally, but we have seen Macca take time to get to grips with it, its a tough role. He was there to fill in yesterday and add a bit of experience, again I think he grew into it. The Shoot shouts have to stop its terrible.

People need to bin off the “shoot” shouts every time Gomez gets the ball.

As well as it being the most wool thing to do, more importantly it doesn’t help the player or the team.

Very good result and a bit more experience and confidence for the youngsters.  It's a bit mad to think we used all our available senior players except for Diaz last night as we seemed to have kids everywhere.  I expect there will be plenty more opportunities for them as the season ramps up.

Southampton were tidy but wasteful.  They, Leeds and Leicester look streets ahead of the bottom five in the Premier League but I suspect they'd be like Burnley in that confidence would quickly disappear.

Quansah was outstanding again, particularly when Southampton were breaking on us in the first hour.

Yeah it's making me bork every time it gets shouted 😂

Manager has even asked supporters to stop doing it.

Klopp isn’t afraid to tell fans what he thinks if he thinks they are wrong. But not very often he does it through the press. Mostly he does it during the game. The fact he’s gone into the press to say stop doing it means we should take notice.
I think Jookie might just be the best fisherman on this thread.

Because of who they are, we'll feel duty-bound to put a strong team out.

Great game - made up for the kids and what a squad we are turning into.

When we've lost a raft of first-teamers, the reserves and kids have really stepped up, looked accomplished and knew their jobs. There were none you could point to, to say they didn't know what they were doing.

The formation, the covering of set pieces - attacking and defending was flawless and well known and well orchestrated.

Some of them look like they have been playing at that level for years.

For once the ref and linesmen appeared to actually understand what the rules of the game are and that it's their job to be impartial. Think Pawson gave a few odd decisions against us and for them, but nothing on the scale you usually see with the officials that fuck us over every week.

Loads of positives last night. Well done Redmen

I know Danns, Koumas, and the kids getting all the plaudits - deservedly so. I think Kelleher should have got MOTM .. his saves in first half  0-0 and even at 1-0 up - allowed us to win the match.
Yes the guys scored at crucial times,  and we play till end of 90 mins plus ET

- Kelleher stepped up big time in Alisson's absence - well played lad and keep it up.

Another clean sheet vs N Forest please!

Some of them look like they have been playing at that level for years.
Bradley no longer feels like a kid and we sometimes forget that Harvey is still very young.  Those goals by Danns had a real feel of a natural striker's instinct about them and he was arguably more composed in front of goal that Gakpo. Hopefully the lad will go on to fulfull his early promise.

Hate that draw.

Because of who they are, we'll feel duty-bound to put a strong team out.

I just want that League title and would prefer no distractions

It's the last game before the international break, we need to play a strong team anyway to get away with some "picked up a knock" diddles.

They were lovely goals. Calmly taken, he does look like a very natural goalscorer in the mold of Fowler - though let's not get carried away, he has a long way to go, but the signs are very promising.

Will take these young lads a few years to properly establish themselves and if they can keep up the standard then they are going to be very useful players for us in the coming years, but that's always the difficulty - keeping the standard and then improving year on year.

Great stuff though. Really enjoy it when the lads have to step up and are given a chance.

They both went in high, that's factually correct, both tried to play the ball at height.  Doku with his foot, Mac Allister with his chest.
