Put an umbrella and a sparkler in it and I suppose it's acceptable  ;)

I've just poured a 15 yr old Speyside cognac finish and to be honest not that great.

Modification required here, it's not as bad after the first sip for some strange reason.

Talisker is the dogs nuts.  Definately.

That is gorgeous Lady May, but so is Lagavulin, and Glenmorangie have a delightful tipple that is from memory distilled in old sherry barrels

At college many moons ago I done the tour of Bushmills distillery, and had a few at the end of it.  Was well on my way as I was still in my teens.

But never quite got the taste for 'proper' whiskey.

JD for me.  In fact I'm gonna have one now.

Throughout my working life, I have worked collectively for five and a half years in 'Norn Iron' and have on many occasions had the opportunity of a Bushie' tour.  However, having only been into whiskey for about a year have never been on one..... What a dickhead.

Well if it's any consolation the stench would put you off the hard stuff for life.  You ever sniff whiskey when hungover and want to throw?  Multiply that sensation by 10 and you're close to the strength of the smell.

Woodford Reserve Bourbon.  Was drinking the stuff in the states, lovely it was too.  I was made up when the Threshers at the top of our road started stocking it.  £26 for 70cl.  Worth every penny, erm if you like bourbon that is.

Glenfiddich special reserve is pretty good also.  They also do a 50 year old malt!  I would love a go on that, but it's about five grand a bottle I think!  :o

..... sussed the room.  Knew for certain sure they're be loads that took a tiny sip and went "Yuk" and left the remainder.  So hung around until the last one had left for the tour and, like greased lightening, slurped up the leavings (or slops, if you will have it so).

Disgusting I know.  I can only plead, in mitigation, that I was in thrall to, and crazed with, the Talisker Lust, Your Honour.  Deal mercifully with me, please, I beg.

Cheers mate.  Seems our tastes are similar, so I'll give it a go.  Hopeless round here, but there's a whisky shop in Soho which has an excellent range, so I'll pick a bottle up on Saturday.

On a separate issue which I've meant to mention and which I think will interest you.  My latest thing is flavoured vinegars.  I've been trialling two and they're nearly ready for tasting.  So I'll see how they work out and put a thread up.

strayed to southern comfort once after an all day bender, hit the stuff at the wrong time (3am) and paid for it with 3 days of my life.

me too. a mate of mine was behind the bar during some lunchtime piss up and i was ordering double southern comforts but, unbeknownst to me, he was making 'em quadruples. i had about 6 of them, so 24 shots, and was totally fine or so i thought. got up to go to the can, walking ok, ish. got about halfway to the bog and that is all i remember for about 2 hours.

i woke up locked in a toilet stall, couldn't stand, couldn't get out. eventually managed it, felt like death. turned out i'd puked all over the floor outside...just a total disaster.

i must have been quite close to the dangerous level of alcohol poisoning because i had also drunk champagne and wine earlier.

to this day, 30 years later, just the thought of southern comfort turns my stomach.

pity too as it is good stuff.
Left England 1990...still on our perch...I think I'd better come back because it's all gone haywire since!
