Preview Swansea City v Liverpool - Sun 25th November 1.30pm

I'd rather Jack, than Fleetwood Mac, sang the Reynolds Girls, acknowledging the rising star of Swansea Football Club, but in the same breath neglecting to acknowledge the brilliance of the rock 'event' that was "Rumours".

But did they have a point? In Huw Jenkins, a man Brendan Rodgers could barely talk higher of, they have what can only be described as a visionary of a Chairman, and boy oh boy can we testify to the benefits of that - the older heads remembering the positive evidence; the younger heads the counterpoint.

A club with a clear approach to its football, applied through successive managers, each of whose work (as a rule) built on that of his predecessor. That's a recipe for long-term growth - something maybe only emulated at West Brom on these shores in recent years. A kind of steady isolation from the slings and arrows of outrageous managerial fortune.

That approach has truly borne fruit in recent years, of course, with our own Rodgers solidifying the foundations to a stage where the club has viable ambitions to becoming a Premier League stalwart. Starting from a position where it was relying on a local gym for its training facilities, the sales of Allen and Sinclair, and let's face it, of Rodgers himself, has put Swansea on a very firm footing indeed. That netted the club in excess of £25m, which when added to their Premier League prize money and their share of the TV revenues, provided quite a war chest for whoever the new man was going to be.

And what a new man. Handsome, bechiselled of cheekbone, hair as slick as a newly emerged Martin Sheen en route to ending Colonel Kurtz's Junglist Massive, and with a footballing pedigree that sits him at the top table of the footballing Crufts (or should that be Cruyffts?), Michael Laudrup is a man that some of us ourselves covat. He'd stated his admiration for the club beforehand, after all. But regardless, having taken the reins at The Liberty, he took his prodigious war chest and spent it in what looks like the most effective way possible.

In the signings of Ki, De Guzman, Hernandez and Michu, Laudrup has added a veneer of genuine Rolls Royce class to his group, with (it seems) Chico Flores providing an able replacement for the loanee prodigy that was Steven Caulker.

Swansea currently sit in 10th place on 16 points, one point and one place ahead of ourselves. We could use a victory, that goes without saying. But Swansea are a mean proposition, particularly in light of our own peculiar 'work in progress' tendencies this season.

Our achilles heel recently has been our vulnerability to quality and pace on the counter, and Swansea have both midfield players with the class to make single touches count in transition, and the pace to kill us in the spaces we leave. We saw as much at Anfield. Also, when on his game, in Michu they have both that quality on the ball, and the kind of reference point that brings their other weapons into play. This is a difficult tie.

That said, we'll boast a full strength line-up, and players with something to prove: a resoundingly bloodied nose in the Carling Cup, a returning Brendan Rodgers and Joe Allen, and last but not least, quotes from Ashley Williams to pin up on the dressing room wall. That, plus the little matter of our league form, which is improving, and Senor Luis Suarez, who ought to be frothing at the mouth... well, it's going to be interesting.

My prediction? A scoring draw. It'll go down like a cold cup of sick after the UEFA result, but when we look back on it, we'll think it was a fair return. That's just me though - over to you.

I'm expecting Brendan to take a leaf out of the books of the past and start a fast and agressive line up. He knows they can counter and we can be vulnerable so with an attack being the best form of defence and all that maybe, just maybe, we'll get a very entertaining game of football.

When they came to Anfield we had a glut of chances once we strengthened the field. We just didn't bury them. That problem is still there but when you see how we were against Wigan it gives you hope

A scoring draw wouldn't be a bad result at all. Not champagne, but not your cup of cold sick either.

Looking into my crystal ball I see that Ashley Williams gets an own goal (ball cannoned in off his arse) so that's one for us. They equalise with the fast counter-attack that you rightly point to as our weak spot. The winner comes in the 90th minute courtesy of a sloppy backpass by Williams intercepted by a bloke called Luis Suarez. Nice chip Luis. 2-1 to us.

In all seriousness their weakest link is Ashley Williams. There's a touch of...whatisface...Ipswich, Newcastle, Sunder....yep, there's a touch of Titus Bramble about the lad. We need to be ready to pounce.

With a lot of players rested I think we have serious chance to win this, so I am hoping for a little luck.... and a win!
One thing does need to be said: in the post-Benitez era, there was media-led clamour (but also some politicking going on at the club) to make the club more English; the idea being that the club had lost the very essence of what it means to be ‘Liverpool’. Guillem Ballague 18/11/10

This is oing to be a tough game, although there isn't many easy away games in the Premier League these days.

Would like to see us be a bit tighter in this game so maybe Allen and Henderson as the two in mdfield with Gerrard just ahead and Enrique continuing on the left where he can help Johnson out defensively while also providing an attacking threat.

Draw.
Manchester United could win fifty titles, but they will always be the Rolling Stones of football. Good, just not quite that band from Liverpool.

Reina
Wisdom Skrtel Agger Johsnon
Allen Henderson Suso
Sterling Suarez Enrique

Subs: Jones, Gerrard, Assaidi, Carragher, Sahin, Morgan, Mclaughlin/Flanno/Robinson

That would be my team. Hopefully we can get a win here.

Gerrard is not going to get dropped, so replace Suso with SG and that will be the stating line-up. It is going to be tough but looking forward to Luis sorting out Williams with his nutmegs. 3 points would be very welcome..

Which Liverpool will turn up? After witnessing the victory over Wigan and the throwing away of points against Young Boys, I'm not sure.

I do worry that our players lose their heads when the opposition harasses them in possession.

First game of the season for me. I love away days as well. Early start, loads of ale, hopefully coming home with 3 points as well.

Can't wait for this, we need revenge for the league cup defeat, and our Luis needs to let his feet do the talking to that c*nt Williams.

Difficult game for all sorts of reasons, but winnable if the right things are done to take advantage of Swansea's weaknesses.

We can expect to win the the possession in the attacking third battle in yet another game, as Swansea are less agressive positionally than they were under Rodgers. They sit a little further back into their defensive third of the field than they used to. The key player to take advantage of is, as mentioned, Williams, who sits a little further back, almost like a sweeper at times. On the left side, Angel's attacking aggression might leave space in behind for Suarez to attack, with whoever is on the left wing probably going to have to track back to cover this run. It might be another game for Enrique at left wing, as he can give us the energy and box-to-box movement we'll need to secure the left side. Britton is strong in the middle, but if he's paired with Guzman he'll find himself isolated frequently, and if we play with a 1-1-1 midfield - anchor, runner, playmaker - the runner and the playmaker (think Henderson and Suso) could cause him a lot of problems and force Swansea to change their midfield shape. Michu, of course is the real attacking danger for Liverpool, and we will have to be on our toes with him as he tends to play very advanced and makes great breaking runs between and beyond the lines. If Reina starts in goal, he'll have to be alert to through balls for Michu, as well as the central defenders being aware of him continuing his runs in the attack even when the ball gets played away from him.

When Guzman plays, the attack can get bogged down centrally, so in one sense this will make it easier to cover the attacks, but in another, it might overload the central area when our centrebacks are split. They are fast on the break, so it wouldn't be surprising to see a 5-3-2 with Sterling and Suarez tasked with hitting either side of Williams on the attack, and for once Rodgers giving up some possession in order to force Swansea forward in order to hit them on the break ourselves. I think the left side will be crucial for us - if Johnson and Enrique play a solid game there in a 4-3-3, then we might cut down most of their attacks, especially if we also eliminate their central play. The question then will be if Suarez will be on goalscoring form. Given that he didn't score against YB, it might be one of those games where he puts nearly everything on target.

Overall, the key for us will be stopping their through-balls and right side attacks, and taking advantage of Williams conservatism and the possibility of Britton being isolated. If we can do that, we can put 2 or 3 goals in without much return from Swansea.

I think this will be another very interesting tactical battle for Rodgers, Swansea are a very good side and we will have to get it right from the start. The philosophy in the main hasn't changed since Laudrup's arrival but there isn't as much of a intent to win the ball back as quick or keep the ball for as long. The 2-1 or 1-2 in midfield. Well their players are very clever and are possess clever movement, drifting in between the lines or mixing it up and going out wide. Dyer has come on a lot and could cause some problems with his pace. Michu is very clever aswell, as is De Guzman. If Michu plays behind Graham then a 2-1 is a must for me as our midfield be exploited. Gerrard needs to be advanced and do a job on Britton, try to mark him out of the game. Like away at Norwich last season. Williams has been making a lot of mistakes when put under pressure so a 1-2 with Henderson and Gerrard ahead of Allen could be a good bet, particularly if Michu is playing as the lone striker as I expect. Shelvey and Sahin have warranted starts but I feel they aren't mobile enough to implement the pressing game Rodgers wants in place. Sterling starts for sure. A 3-5-2 is a no no imo, we will need to press well and two upfront won't allow that. 3-4-3 or 4-3-3 is the way for me. I thought Downing was great at left back last night so he should play there and use Enrique ahead of him. Quite funny that. Sterling on the other side, Suarez central, Allen as the holding (1) with Henderson and Gerrard as box to box midfielders (2). Or we could sacrifice Henderson and bring in Coates to make it three at the back, something I would definitely advocate if Graham starts with Michu behind. Maybe Coates or Agger as a defensive midfielder if our three against their one becomes quite pointless?

Same with Assaidi. But more if we are chasing the game with him.

Really looking forward to this game..certain games are a nice barometer as to how you are progressing and this is one of them for me. Swansea have handled us with relative ease in a previous 2 contests with them and it would be nice to reverse that a little bit.

Same team that played the bulk of the Wigan game would suffice...if Wisdom is fit ofcourse.

Feeling optimistic about this one, reckon we'll probably see Suso and Sterling on the wings although could see Assaidi playing on whichever wing Sterling isn't on. I say this because I assume Enrique will be dropping back to LB and Johnson going to RB to cover for the injured Wisdom. I'd be inclined to drop Gerrard after his showing last night bit highly doubt that will happen. Going forward this season I'd like to see a midfield of Henderson, Allen and Suso, with Lucas coming in for Henderson when he's fit. Reckon Gerrard needs a kick up the arse and to realise that he's not indispensable. 2-1 Liverpool. Suarez, Agger.

I think we win.
We are on a good run in the PL, 13 points out of the last 7 games.
We're connecting better and hopefully Suarez and Gerrard are not tired and up for it. I think we win 2-0 or 3-1.

We've got a good chance against these because they will be more open like Wigan as oppose to playing someone like Stoke. Whether we can defend well enough against them will be the main issue though.

Jon Moss is the ref if anyone's interested. His first ever match officiating us.

Means he will try to impress and put a shift in and send suarez off and award swansea a dodgy penalty.

Anything more that 6m for Joe Allen and we have been ripped off.

Loads of Joe allens out there.

I would like to see him stay at Swansea myself and see if he can have another decent season. He is a championship player - players like a championship player.

Gerard may not need a kick up the arse. He is in his early 30`s with a huge amount of miles on the clock. Maybe he is just not fit for 2 or 3 games per week anymore.
There really isn't.  I think a lot of us, even our own have started doubting it. It's time to rise up. And take what is rightfully ours. It's a big mountain, but what is the point in achieving something, which everyone can?

Fate has given us a mountain too big. We have to rise. We have to believe.

Perfect outcome;

We win 3-0, Suarez hat-trick, Luis hands the match ball to Ashley Williams.

You can always tell the shite players, they're the most talkative
A win for the Liverpool country

Don't feel comfortable going with a 1-2, definitely a 2-1 for me, we saw how Allen was isolated in the last matchup. I'm not about the updates to Wisdom's injury, so don't really know if he's starting or not.

                   Reina

Glen     Skrtel      Agger    Enrique

             Allen      Hendo

                    Suso

 Gerrard      Suarez    Sterling

Been calling for a variation on this for sometime. Gives yu the strong base in CM to launch attacks from.
The courts, the rich, the powerful or those in authority never lie. It has been dealt with 'by the courts' nothing to see here run along.

It's what we've played most games, with the 2 and then the 1. Just Gerrard isn't the best defensively. But he has been playing deep.

Ashley Williams may not shake Suarez's hand, admits Laudrup

It's funny because Suarez doesn't give a s*it
Must admint Cesc is a great prospect new him before he went to Arsenal, same with Pique(now at ManU) and Messi also from Barcelona. Watch out for these guys in the future look very good.

Get him in the scouting team ASAP!
