For me Toure might be our most important signing this summer.

Just looking at his matches last season he was brilliant against the phyiscal strikers in the league and that was one of our biggest issues as we saw none of our centre backs deal with Lambert, Jones, Benteke, Lukaku etc.

He could be the perfect partner for Agger as he can be the physically dominant partner and Agger can do what he does best sweeping behind and being the ball playing partner.

I wouldn't be surprised if he was first choice alongside Agger next season and was brilliant.

That is the best Toure compilation video i have seen.  Think his assertion in his defensive play is exactly what we need but I really can' t see him as anything but a short term fix.  Hopefully we can make headway in bringing in a promising young centre back aswell.

If he can perform for one or two season's that's fine.

We're always looking long term with players, what this club and squad needs is players who can make an impact now.  We have plenty of talented youngsters and we really need to get top four ASAP.  If Toure can help with that it will be a shrewd signing.

Just thought I should comment on something that was brought up in the Mignolet thread in the STFU.

I'm not exactly overwhelmed by the signing of Toure as a new CB. However, PoP pointed something out. That Toure, perhaps, can also play as a defensive midfielder. If that's the case, then I believe we may have done something very clever. Because then we have a CB option, but even more importantly, we have our experienced backup for Lucas. The one who plays when Lucas needs a rest. The player we've been missing for a couple of seasons. So we'd get a two in one solution. If that's our plan then well done, Rodgers.

No way that would happen, he doesn't have the legs for it.

We'll see. I don't think he needs to cover every inch of the pitch. What we need is that stability. With that, we can easily hand over a lot of the work to Henderson or Allen or Gerrard. It's the defensive stability we miss when Lucas is out.

And I remember from PoP's summaries that we tend to play something like 3-4-3 in games, where the defensive midfielder drops down between our CBs, with our fullbacks taking up higher positions. Toure would be that player that drops deeper, the one who would play as the central CB. May not be our plan, but I wouldn't rule it out.

He would need less legs in a holding mid in Rodgers' system than he would as a central defender, though. It's actually a perfect position for someone who doesn't have the stamina to go box-to-box. I disagree though. I think he has more than enough athleticism to play both positions.

That's bollocks. The difference between the demands on the DM and the two CBs in Rodgers' system doesn't look too different to me. If Rodgers thinks that Kolo can play CB, what stops him from playing DM? Can you point to one attribute that cannot be compensated for? PoP's point stands - Kolo can fit in for Lucas if need be. And remember that PoP did not suggest this as a first choice, and I'd dear add maybe not even second choice of Allen can fit in there when legs are that needed. As I wrote a number of times, such situations when Kolo is needed as DM may arise once or twice a season, so why can't he do it?

I think Toure could play DM when needed.

But to be honest I think he will be needed at centre back more often than not.

I remember a very early game of his (might have been his debut in fact) against Leeds at Elland Road. He was Sissoko-esque with his energy at that point.

Did they win that about 4-0 with Henry on fire (doesn't narrow it down!)? Think it was the same day Owen scored a hat trick away at Man City.

He's surprisingly athletic and good on the ball. He's not as physical as Yaya but I've seen him play his way out of trouble very nicely.

That's good to know as having seen him play for Arsenal (very few times), he didn't seem like that. But you've seen him more recently and more often than I have so I'll blame you if you if that doesn't turn out to be the case ;)

Also he supposedly has trouble with his weight. Was that ever a problem at Man City?

Think he will compliment Agger quite well, as Agger seems to need someone more physical beside him.
Think we can get a good few years out of him, which will help bring the younger lads along steadily.

A possibility of Kolo being fit for Manu? With a groin injury? I seriously doubt that. I think that is transfer mind games for the teams that are raising the price of defenders because they know we are desparate.

Posters on here going to Melwood and hearing first hand that Kolo reckons he's fit for Sunday, and the Echo now backing this up.

Might just be that it wasn't as bad as initially feared.
