A bit of stick for them on the whole, but as a show, "The Goal Show" is brilliant.

Just James Richardson and some european football pundits (not your shite ex english players) giving opinions and discussion, while they show highlights and live clips from the games that are on. It's exactly what I want! Probably won't watch any of the full group games this year with this being on. Well done BT, now stop charging so much.
We already have shit in the country, and the game of Liverpool fills life with joy. Thanks

As soon as I watched it on the first night I decided there was no point watching any of the other matches in full since we're not in it, the Goals show is the perfect way to watch really. Shows everything worth seeing from all of the matches without having to change channels yourself and possibly miss something. Brilliant idea well executed. Helps that James Richardson is presenting and has people who actually know what they're talking about to be pundits as well.

Be very interested to see what Channel 4 would do with it, might be something a bit enjoyably different a la the brilliant Football Italia of yore.

It would be welcome to have back on 'normal' TV in midweek on ITV too like, but... Andy Townsend. That's like Sophie's Choice, only worse.

The AC Jimbo RedZone show is aces though. I miss it in the knock-out stages.  I'd much rather have those guys talking over the on-screen action instead of the regular commentators and Owen bloody Hargreaves bringing me down with his gloomy Eeyore musings.

Yes, was my first thought too. I quite like the European football show and the BT goals show with the European journalists when the group matches are on but yeah, other than that, it's not great.

Think it's unlikely though, IIRC, Channel 4 got Football Italia on the cheap, don't know if they'd be able to afford this.

I hope so, I find it disgusting that everything has gone to BT when they do such a crappy job on it. The Champion's League should be on ordinary television not everyone can afford Sky/BT.

Remember the good old days of Sky / PremPlus?

PremPlus did 50 games for £50 a season!

But don't forget though, they did it in the good of the fans, so that one company didn't have a monopoly on everything ::)

Now all they've done is cause the 2 companies to bid rediculous amounts against each other, resulting in higher charges for the fans to subsidise it

I hope the CL goes back to Sky too! I've not got BT and have no intention of getting it

Only positive about Champions League on BT is the goals show, the rest is garbage. If ITV or C4 get rights to some matches hope it's the Wednesday ones rather than Tuesday, it's weird when it's on FTA on the Tuesday as there's no FTA highlights show on Wednesday. Unfortunately BBC will not bid for CL rights due to the sponsors deals

Agreed.  These things are put to tender and there is nothing stopping terrestrial tv buying the rights. If they cant afford to do so then that's on them.

BT Sport agrees new deal for Champions League and Europa League rights
« Reply #1221 on: March 6, 2017, 09:06:41 am »

BT Sport has retained the exclusive rights to show Champions League and Europa League games until the end of the 2020-21 season, it has announced.

The broadcaster has agreed a three-year deal with UEFA from the 2018-19 season of around £394million (€456m) per year, a significant increase in their current £299m (€346m) per season deal.

The new deal gives BT Sport exclusivity across all live games for the first time, highlights and in-match clips of both competitions, while Champions League 'double-header' nights will mean it can show back-to-back matches during the group stage, with live matches kicking off at both 6pm and 8pm.

BT will also make clips, weekly highlights, UEFA's magazine show and both finals free to watch on social media.

John Petter, consumer CEO at BT, said: "We are delighted to have renewed these rights. The UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League are two of the best competitions in the world and we would like to thank UEFA for choosing us as their exclusive broadcast partner in the UK. The UEFA Champions League is due to get even stronger and we are delighted that fans will be able to enjoy two live matches a night for the first time."

Guy Laurent Epstein, UEFA marketing director, said "UEFA is delighted to have extended the relationship with BT Sport for a further three seasons, taking our partnership to 2021.

"BT Sport has proved to be an innovative broadcast partner, pushing the boundaries and covering the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League in new ways. BT have delivered strong audiences in the UK and we are excited about their future plans for the use of social media which will engage a growing fanbase that consumes sport in different ways."

More money trumps awful viewing figures.

I guess UEFA not being happy about the low viewing figures was baloney. ::)

It's not that strange. There used to be one Champions League game on terrestrial TV every week and about 3/4 Europa League games. Now there are none.

Also most people I know are in a similar position to me, as that they have Skysports (or some access to it through Skygo etc), don't know any who pay for BT on top of it.
