My biggest issue is Saul's character is already pretty close to what it is at the end of Breaking Bad. Is there really much room for development here?

My biggest issue is that there is nothing really going on. An intense storyline hasn't yet started IMO.

really?  he's close to what he was at the end of BB, maybe, where he was a terrified, broken man on the run... but not at the point of his introduction to BB, where he was a completely amoral shark with no limits to what he's capable of if paid enough.  he's got a way to go yet to reach that point.

Perhaps I'm having a hard job remembering the early Saul from Breaking Bad then, or maybe I'm expecting Walter White levels of transformation.

I prefer it to be a little slow, since we already know who and what he becomes. Now we're properly learning how he got there.

I definitely wouldn't expect 'Walter White levels of transformation' for Saul. After all, Walt had a family, a wife, and a teaching career etc. The alteration in character that Walter went under to eventually be Heisenberg was huge. Whereas Saul, on the other hand, has always been sly, as well as always having the potential to do anything morally 'bad' for his betterment.

Perhaps I'm having a hard job remembering the early Saul from Breaking Bad then, or maybe I'm expecting Walter White levels of transformation.

Brilliant. Do agree with this review though, I don't think it would have been a great episode if I hadn't already seen Breaking Bad. Dialogue, acting and direction all good as usual but the story line in this episode has been done many, many times before.

Loved that episode, Mike carried it so well. It was incredibly well shot too, you can see the love and effort put into the show rather than it being a cheap cash in.

One minor insignificant quibble though. His Granddaughter seems the same age as she is years later in Breaking Bad

Fantastic bit of telly

It would be interesting to see someone who hadn't watched BB review that, because I'm actually not as attached to BB as some and didn't even particularly like Mike, but still thought it was spectacularly well done and emotional.

Episode 7 - Really good again
There are flashes of Saul being a bit of a shiester but on the whole - he's a good guy, he tries to do the right thing

It will be interesting to see what causes him to go full 'criminal lawyer' - perhaps something to do with his brother - At the minute he comes over as someone who cant seem to catch a break

Absolutely love this show

Great acting and story telling all round
