Williams & O'Sullivan have played 2 frames in the time it takes Selby to take one shot. ;D

You don't think the best player ever to lift a cue is capable of overturning a 4 frame deficit with 17 frames teft to play?

It went under the radar a bit mate but Ebdon actually retired in April

I love Ronnie, he's my favourite player of all time - the lad is a wizard on the table and will go down as a great.

But the more I hear him talk, the more I think that he just comes across as a full on wanker.

I don't know any other sportsman at the top of their game who religiously degrades the sport they play and openly criticises their competitors ability.

He just sounds so arrogant and ungrateful. It's absolutely cringeworthy to listen to.

If he doesn't want to be there, quit. Stop turning up, saying he's just there to 'try and have a bit of fun'  and to 'try and enjoy it'.

Whinging about having to avoid people when fans are at the crucible.... :butt

He is one of the nicest people you could ever meet a really genuine fella. His interviews are just firmly tongue in cheek. He is box office and is a bit like a boxer trash talking. It makes headlines and promotes the sport.

That one interview and McGill-Clarke has probably produced more media coverage than the rest of the tournament put together.

Big fan of Selby, one for the purists.

John Parrot is a family friend. I remember a conversation just after Parrot broke through in which my Dad suggested that Terry Griffiths and Denis Taylor would soon drop out of the top 16 because the next generation were more talented. John just had this horrified look on his face and put the record straight. What they lacked in talent they more than made up for in sheer match play nous.

Selby is like that. Players want to get in amongst the balls and build a rhythm. Draw the frame out and that rhythm disappears. Players like Selby produce match winning breaks from nothing, when they are cold and have no rhythm. That kind of mental strength grinds players down.

You play Selby and he makes every frame a battle. Players like Selby are the Atletico of snooker.

Given how slow the tables are playing because the tournament is being played 4 months later I wouldn't be surprised if a grinder wins this year.

Agree with some of the above although I don’t think Selby’s break building is anywhere near as slow as Griffiths or Ebdon used to be. Sometimes he takes a long time deciding a shot and can play too negatively especially when out of form. He’s now in form in this tournament and has smashed Robertson with heavy scoring and good safety

Got to admire Selby for his matchplay and toughness.  Even when he's losing heavily, you can never count him out.  He can also score heavily when he wants to.

I admire the all round game of snooker (all playing styles).  It's not just about potting balls as quickly as possible.  The main reason why Trump has elevated himself to the next level over the past year or so, is cause he has worked on his safety game a lot.

People like him are the reason why Snooker is a dying sport in the UK what sane kids would watch people like Selby grinding it out for 20 hours zzzzzzzzzz.  Thank god for Ronnie or the BBC would have cancelled Snooker I feel.

Isn't that more to do with kids these days wanting instant gratification. As for Ronnie he actually brought in Ray Reardon to help him tighten up his game and improve tactically.

Personally I enjoy watching a mixture of styles especially over the longer matches at the crucible.

Agreed, i do like the different styles of play, some in frame tactical battles can be epic, if you're playing the likes of Ronnie, you're not going to play his type of game, otherwise you're going to get hammered, so you're going carve him up & leave him in the long grass, which get's him frustrated & he starts missing shots, leave players like Ronnie on & you're 5-0 frames down next to no time & wondering what the fuck has happened
