This visa application is a beyond a joke.  Every country I've visited in the last ten years, are you messing?  That list is exhaustive, and I'm not certain I can remember it.  Also my last two places of work - don't even know if the same people are still there - are they going to chase that one up?  And I have to have at least £100 per day available - what does that mean, does that include the money I take with me, or does it mean my bank balance, if so it is going to screw me up that I'm in my overdraft?  Ridiculous.  Can anybody who did Anzi confirm how much of this is relevant?

My sister has lived in Russia for the best part of 4 years now and has to do the visa application at least three times a year and from her experience they really don't check anything. I went last year as well and some of the questions are almost impossible to answer. What i did last time and again for this is just be as honest as possible without saying anything daft. If they ask if you've got enough money in the bank say yes, or even just say you're employed somewhere, they're really not going to check.

Agree. Know quite a few people from work who go to Russia from time to time and there are never any issues (and if you are rich and from France you can even get a Russian passport within a few days). As you said - try to answer as good as you can and you'll be fine. At the border they might check if you have some money, but even that is highly unlikely and you' ll need it anyway to keep going with beer and vodka.

Visa has arrived, can't wait. One question though for people who may have been before...

As you can probably guess my name is Mark, which is easy enough for the Russian's to sort out because only one letter is different in Cyrillic, and that r is a very clear translation to P. However the fun on my visa starts when they look at my middle name, Phillip. To make it sound right, they (I presume the agency) have spelt it ФИЛЛИП which is quite correct phonetically. The problem is they have then sent this off to the embassy who issued the visa and translated it back as Fillip on the bottom of the computer read section (the one with loads of <<<) which again is quite correct. This problem also arises in my surname too as I have a ph there as well. Anybody else encountered this type of translation-translation error whilst visiting Russia before?

Yes - Don't worry about it. It happens to everyone's. Three different names on visas  ;D.
There's no 'J' for James in Russian so that's been triple translated back as all sorts but the recurring one is DJEQMS.
And that's my first name!
I can confirm from experience that you'll have no problems with it.

Been testing my thermal gear early walking the dog this week and it seems to work okay.  I assume though that I have no chance of getting those gel bag things that solidify and warm up when you snap them on a plane using just hand luggage?

No, the record is deleted after your visa expires, you have to start again.

Your hotel will do it automatically. If not - I know a couple of places you can get it done it 10 minutes for ~£15.

There are:
http://www.fc-zenit.ru/tickets/europa_league/zenit_liverpool/
24-31 Jan - season ticket holders.
1 Feb - general

Looks like away tickets are 1900 roubles = ~38-40 quid.

Can I ask anyone who has been to Russia previously what the process would be? As far as I can gather I'l need to
* fill out an online electronic visa + print it out
* post it to the embassy with my passport + photo
* Fee
* tourist confirmation/voucher from hotel??
* Insurance

Is that correct? Note I'l be coming from Ireland though

If your thinking of going you'll have to get a move on,only 3 weeks & there is a bit of a backlog because of Russian new year, would try websites like traveldirect.com who tell you on their website all you need to know,cost for visa including invite £115

For Irish citizens the processing is €60 within 4-20 working days or €100 to get it done within three working days. Just want to make sure that is more or less what will need doing?

1080 tickets at £40 each.  :(

http://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/announcements/zenit-v-lfc-ticket-details
Its a bit excessive isn't it, but still I think anybody who's on this trip has already spent so much that a ticket costing £20 more than it should do isn't the end of the world.

The first two sales are available to all (ST holders, plus members/fan card holders), but the 3rd sale for those with one credit, is only open to ST holders (and hospitality members) if I read this right.  Is that correct?  As a member with one previous away, I assume I have to wait for a further announcement....?
