Cant praise this lad highly enough since his return from injury, hes had a massive step up whether playing as a 6 or an 8, the way he sticks his ass in to shield the ball and keep it under high pressure is different class

Such an intelligent player. Not hard to see why Lallana compared him to Modric, is it? Game intelligence in its purest form, I’ve wanted us to have a midfielder like this under Klopp for so long.

Remember when we were signing him last year and the papers were going on about 70m and this board was in uproar saying he's not worth that. I said then he was worth 70m but then it turns out he had a clause for 35m. That was daylight robbery. The guy is a complete midfielder and his biggest asset is his decision making. He always makes the right decision.

I use to watch him for Brighton and he hardly ever makes a bad decision in a football match. His choice of pass, his positioning, tactical football brain and his spacial awareness in tight areas is so consistent. A world class 6 and a world class 8 all in one.

I thought at the time it was one of the best things of the summer window that we got him instead of Mount, he is a truly top class number 8......and 6.

McAllister wasnt instead of Mount we had Macca in the bag from about March and Mount picked United's wages over us around the end of April. We moved on to Dom instead of Mount. Macca was always the plan alongside Mount.

Yes. I was president of the Mason Mount fan club if you remember on the transfer forum at the time but the tory melt took the big wages at United. The best deals sometimes are the one's you dont make and getting Dom while Mount goes to United to be permanently crocked really worked out well for us.

Player of the year or team of the year will depend on who wins the title. Mac will have a shout in the midfield of TOTY if we win, but feels like they'd be having Rice, Odegaard, Rodri and KDB ahead of any of our midfielders at the moment. To be fair they are doing an amazing job for their teams too. Normally the title race is not this tight between 3 teams so it's quite easy to pick up the standout players.

The narrative in the summer was that Macallister was good because of Caicedo from pretty much most Brighton fans and with the prices of both, I sort of believed some of that because when watching Brighton, Caicedo was definitely more prominent. Having seen Macca this season play for us, I genuinely think it must have been the other way around, wherein Macca's presence allowed Caicedo to be the destroyer he was last season because fuck me, he is the most intelligent and efficient footballer I've seen play for us. No wasteful touches, economical in possession, his range of passing is a joke and the weight on his passes are always just right. With all that technical ability, he never shies from his work rate and defensive effort. Played as a 6 and was brilliant, now plaing in his natural position and looks even better. Having Endo behind him has unleashed his abilities fully.
Another thing I've only started to notice is that his fist touch is absolutely impeccable, every single time, never too flashy but he kills the ball dead no matter what kind of pass he is receiving. When playing under pressure and being closed down, that kind of technique basically means that he hardly ever loses possession from a knockdown or a bad touch which is the most common turnover in congested midfields. Honestly, I don't know if this even gets tracked in some xtouch or something, but I genuinely think he may have the best first touch in the country.

35 million. An absolute robbery. I suspect we felt bad for Brighton so we helped them rob Chelsea by hiking the price and pressuring them to pay it. :D

Yeah, Rice and Odegaard have kept Arsenal going and Rodri keeps City ticking over. Mac has become the fulcrum of our midfield though, particularly with Jones out and then Endo not fit as well. Thiago and Baj out all season as well. Mac our most important player right now.

Yeah, Macca was done way early and with the release clause so low, I am pretty sure Macca was absolutely going to happen regardless of other deals and was probably wrapped up before last season ended given how early and quickly it was sorted. Mount+Macca was probably the plan to replace Milner+Naby+Ox. Dom was probably supposed to be next season's target with Hendo having one year left on his deal before he asked to leave and that sort of brought that forward. I am sure if he looked to be going elsewhere we'd have tried to do that deal regardless of Hendo. I think Gravenberch was the eventual Mount replacement in that regards.

What a signing he's been, and it was another tireless performance.

His awareness and composure in the dying seconds to control/retain the ball, turn the defender, then dink the perfect ball for Darwin was world class. He is just so good with the ball under pressure, and I'm hoping we can see him and Dom together regularly now.

I was a massive fan when he was at Brighton and thought he would be a superb signing but he has exceeded my expectations despite how much I already rated him. He's absolutely elite.

I still think Szobo is the signing of the season based on those insane first few months before the injuries hit, but to sign Alexis, Szobo and Endo in one window was outrageous. They have all be incredible.

I still find it funny how underrated he is/was. He was integral to Argentina winning the world cup. He was Messi's main contributer in how they play the game. I argued with a few on here that didn't really rate him.

The main point was a player like this makes the team better. He has made us better in nearly every game he has played. You have to have players like this to win consistently.
