When you look at the list, I think it shows that for a goal to be remembered as from a set-piece it needs to be kind of direct - Trent's free-kick or Matip heading in a corner, that sort of thing. When it's like Salah's against Southampton (rebound off the bar from a free-kick) for instance it doesn't register in the same way.

Yeah exactly. When I think of set piece goals my first thought is of a targeted ball deliberately swung in with the intention of being headed/volleyed into the back of the net. The type that Steve Bruce, Hyypia, Skrtel, Terry or Cahill used to get a few of a season. I think there's a lot to be said for that kind of goal because having 'cheap' goals like that in the locker is really useful to bail a team out when things aren't clicking (like the Lovren/Klaven goal V Burnley last year).

Good to see we're getting them somehow even if they're not from the big centre backs!

Would it be possible to also keep tabs of first goals scored in addition to the assists? Seems important as the first goal changes a game (all 1-0 wins will fall in there too). Just a thought.

Remarkable how high the standard is that people have set for him. He's just had a 6 game goal drought, was having a supposedly average season before that, and with 5 games to go he's only 1 goal behind Owen's best ever league tally. Fowler and Torres only managed to surpass it once each (with the caveat that Fowler also had a 25 goal season in the 42 game era).
