Bought a record player this week. First time I've been able to play vinyl since the evolution of the CD. Decided I need to christen it with something decent so went to a record fair and picked up an '84 pressing of Stop Making Sense by Talking Heads. What an album, what a year.

Also, probably one of the best starts to a concert. Ever.

The Jam - still sound fucking amazing after all these years (all albums)

That's the thing - we grow old but the music stays the same age as it was when it was originally made so takes us back to that time - i fink der fore i yam  :wave

Funny that she used a backup vocalist for the intro and other high note sections considering she did it all of it on the album only 2 years earlier.

As for Jimmy Zavala on harmonica he's famous for performing on Missionary Man and their live gigs. Stevie Wonder was the actual performer on the original recording.

I was wondering that about the back up vocalist but she was awesome

She's part of a great Scottish soulful rock tradition that I am really plugged in to at the moment. Love and Money, the Bathers and Deacon Blue mostly. Also on a Lambchop kick, the early 2000s stuff first; Nixon, Awcommon, Is A woman. Loving it.

...okay i'd take my girlfriend with me though (need someone to carry the bags)  :wave

Indeed, I'm often jealous of younger people, not because what is about is better than it used to be but because there is so much more music in the past of someone living now than there was for myself. I'll let someone else follow the leads.

As for what I'm listening to now, in the same way people can explore back catalogues, I've had latin music open up, even though I don;t speak Spanish, it does not matter

x-ray specs - germ free adolescents and the day the world turned day glo, and altered images - don't talk to me about love

x-ray specs had great hooks and clever lyrics with poly styrene as their iconic front woman (as well as a sax player in a 'punk/new wave' band!) - there's a documentary about her called 'i am cliche' told by her daughter which is an interesting watch

altered images also knew how to write a good hook and this track is so under-rated it's criminal

One of the most criminally unrewarded songs of all time, I used to have it as a 12 inch single and played all the time and only recently remembered it. Up there with any of the best of Bob Marley.

Waited a few days to listen to this. Love the tune.  So glad I dropped back into this thread.
Not sure why, but quite surprised for the love of Eurythmics.  They've got some stuff I love, but never really considered how popular they are.
I also now think I want to listen to some INXS.
"All the lads have been talking about is walking out in front of the Kop, with 40,000 singing 'You'll Never Walk Alone'," Collins told BBC Radio Solent. "All the money in the world couldn't buy that feeling," he added.

That’s quite interesting actually … I feared it would be one of those songs you get on the Lloyds bank adverts… a classic slowed down and the melody taken out… but they brought the melody to the fore ..I think it kept its passion…
I’d have liked them to have let rip on one chorus though …
“Happiness can be found in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.”
“Generosity always pays off. Generosity in your effort, in your work, in your kindness, in the way you look after people and take care of people. In the long run, if you are generous with a heart, and with humanity, it always pays off.”
