Gutted at that. Absolutely loved Cracker back in the day. RIP

What a great show, copied by many shows later on

He was marvellous as Samuel Johnson in Blackadder. One of my favourite episodes

Really sad news

He was on the same flight as me from Newark back to Glasgow about 4 years ago. He looked in a bad way back then, got brought on to the plane in a wheelchair. It comes as no great surprise to me. Still a horrible thing to hear though.

Thought he was great even back in his Mason Boyne days. If you are not familiar with that character, look it up on Youtube.

Tutti Frutti was an amazing show as well come to think of it.

Tutti Frutti was a wonderful show and Robbie Coltrane was right at the fore of it. A wealth of UK talent mind and some familiar faces who were just starting out in their careers. Maybe now's the time to show it again.

because it often comes in 3's, Tom Owen, son of Bill (Compo) who also acted in Last of the Summer wine, also died today. I have to say I'd never heard of him and I only bring it up because it's the third I've noticed today. I had not realised that Bill Owen was London born but was buried in Yorkshire, presumably his adopted county.

One of my early crushes.

Quote
Kirstie Alley, star of Cheers, dies aged 71

Kirstie Alley, the American comedic actress who became one of the world’s biggest television stars in the early 1990s with the sitcom Cheers, has died from cancer. She was 71.

The actress’s death was announced by her children True and Lillie on social media on Tuesday morning, Australian time.

“We are sad to inform you that our incredible, fierce and loving mother has passed away after a battle with cancer, only recently discovered,” they said in a post shared on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.

“She was surrounded by her closest family and fought with great strength, leaving us with a certainty of her never-ending joy of living and whatever adventures lie ahead. As iconic as she was on screen, she was an even more amazing mother and grandmother.“

Alley had been receiving treatment at the Moffitt Cancer Centre in Florida. She had been a resident of the state since buying waterfront mansion from Lisa-Marie Presley in 2000.

Her children paid tribute to their mother’s “zest and passion for life, her children, grandchildren and her many animals, not to mention her eternal joy of creating, were unparalleled and leave us inspired to live life to the fullest just as she did”.

They asked “that you respect our privacy at this difficult time”.

More to come

She had terrible views on most things, but she was also one of the first public people I can recall the tabloids going for over her appearance. It really downgraded her career because as an older woman she put on weight & defined the rest of it, even to the point she made a comedy show about it.

Not really an actor but I was sorry Victor Lewis-Smith died. The Gay Daleks hasn't aged at all well but a lot of the other stuff on TV Offal is still hilarious or jaw dropping. I always liked his Private Eye column too.
