For those who have already watched. Will it be worth waiting to watch it in HD when comes out on Sky Movies HD, or should I just watch it now on the laptop?

I watched it on my laptop after downloading it but may well use the laptop to tv cable to show on the lcd for next weeks episode. Although I watch a lot of stuff on my laptop so not such a big deal for me.

Really liked the first episode, seemed to set up the story and characters well. Reckon it'll be a good series to keep and watch all in a row one weekend! Can't for the life of me remember Band of Brothers but with everyone raving about it I may have to buy the box set. Know what another poster meant the American-centric view of WW2 but to be fair I love HBO stuff and they do this type of thing really well.

The American experience in Africa and Europe was pretty tame in comparison to what the rest of the Allied forces had gone through,

I'm sure those Americans who died in Normandy, the bloody Hurtgen Forest and the Ardennes would disagree. The Ardennes was actually the bloodiest battle the U.S army has ever fought.

First off, Sky can get to fuck. This isn't a fucking movie and it's not even as if they made it. HBO use the subscriptions to produce some of the finest TV there is. Sky are just pimps, whoring out whatever is popular for a fast buck. I wouldn't mind paying to download it direct but there is no way I am getting Sky Movies again - tried it once and the occasional decent movie can't make yup for the majority of unutterable shite they put out.

Anyway, watched the first episode...

Spoiler
...and while it was as good I didn't think it was as great as Band of Brothers. BoB used the first episode "Curahee" to establish the characters before they were tested in battle for the first time. I thought it suffered a little from being unsure how much to keep the "franchise" going and how much to be different.

BoB also benefited from having the real people in the introduction to each episode. It was very much a "film of the book" and I think that came across.

Still - very good if not great so far and look forward to watching the rest.

I didn't last 10 mins before getting that feeling inside me like "wow" sort of thing, I don't know if that makes sense but... yeh, amazing so far!!

Good first episode but I'm gonna stop right here and watch the rest of the episodes when they will  have all been screened on TV.This isn't some ordinary TV show to watch it week in week out and i want to watch and enjoy it when i will have all the episodes just like BoB.

Tale of two halves this first episode.

I found the beginning almost nauseatingly sweet... the music.. the patriotism.. the marine corps catchphrases..

Brings me onto something that Band of Brothers suffered from - which is the heavy product placement (real BoB quote - 'Lucky Strikes! That means fine tobacco!', and just before they hit the beach in this first episode there is a TM Wrigleys 'load shot' from their Spearmint gum advertising. Really slapped me in my face when I saw it at such a high tension moment.

However... once it got going it was, as expected, superb. Band of Brothers is (along with Generation Kill) my favourite War miniseries and this looks like it will live up to it's predecessor. Looking forward to the rest of the series!

Agree with above comments that characters could have been better established in 1st episode.

After1st battle you hear names of people who died and have no clue who they were. Also I wouldn't be able to give you the names of 2 or 3 lead characters as little time is spent establishing them.

It will always suffer being compared to BoB and has to work bloody hard to be anywhere near as good.

Downloading 2nd episode as we speak so can't wait to see how it continues.
