6th, 7th, and 8th have had strange days.

Ricciardo getting a decent result but looking right of the pace.

Stroll getting a good result.

Gasly tumbled right down the order but has recovered well.

Important point for Alfa too with Kimi 9th.
If I were a linesman, I would execute defenders who applauded my offsides.

Nobody says a thing or complains until it's Hamilton that benefits from it  ::)

Hopefully Lando can hold onto third

High profile examples shine a light on 'it' and get discussion going, don't they...  It's not necessarily bias either way.

Because most of the time it doesn’t make a huge difference to the outcome, a driver gets given a lap back and they finish somewhere in the middle, they don’t end up back on the podium.

Excellent work from Lando! Great result. No idea what is going on with Ricciardo but 6th isn't so bad for him either.

You can't fault Hamilton - he's made the best out of the situation and pushed and pushed - if it were Bottas, he'd still be in 9th!

It's just a shit rule. And no one normally complains about it, because those cars that are lapped are the slowest and lapped for a reason - but when you have the best car (lets be honest, it still is!) you get away really with making mistakes

You lose the right to complain about it when it's ok for everyone else but not for Hamilton though

Anyway, Max wins and we've got one hell of a Championship on our hands here! Delighted for Lando Norris getting third.

What a race!

Mind you, it’s a rare rare thing to see Hamilton make a mistake

He’s another one of those, give him a Mercedes or a Red Bull and he’d be right up there. I also wouldn’t count him out of ending up at Mercedes if Hamilton calls it a day or they decide to replace Bottas, and he at least has the experience of racing towards the front of the grid unlike Russell.

Completely. Let’s not kid around, the rule changes have been put in place to slow them down and have worked to a degree but it’s still early in the season so I wouldn’t go much further then to say the Mercedes and RB are neck and neck at this point.

Question is, what if McLaren had put Norris on the mediums for the restart, do we think he could’ve still taken the place off Lecrec? My bet is, if he did take the place, he could’ve held Hamilton off for 2nd.

I doubt it. the merc is just a quicker car and it had DRS too.

I'll normally give Bottas the benefit of the doubt - having Hamilton as a team mate must be a nightmare and more often than not he appears to do what the team expect of him*.

Today (before the accident) appeared an absolute shit-show though.  He was stuck in 9/10th behind Stroll for ages - seemed to come out of the pits ahead of him and then lost that place again almost immediately (Stroll had presumably had a lap or two to get used to the tyres/condition them).  He & Russell were racing, right??

*Red Bull's car this year obviously threatens that somewhat.

Norris was nursing those softs the moment he got passed Leclerc. He would’ve put distance between him and the Ferrari on mediums. The questions is/was he quick enough to get passed the Ferrari on the mediums, he looked the third quickest all weekend so I think so.

We've seen that on a few occasions with Bottas. It doesn't happen with a great frequency, but he's had a couple of nightmare races in his time at Mercedes. I can't recall which race, but there was one last year where he lost arond 9 places in the first lap and a half. And as you point out, having an all-time great in the other car just magnifies any inadequacies in Bottas.

The reaction was pure emotion. It was a big crash and he reacted to the shock of that. A bit of a swipe is just handbags.

As for who's at fault. It came down to Russell either seeing (or perceiving) that slight twitch to the right. Anthony Davidson did a good analysis of it and Bottas was following the dry line on the track and the track was naturally turning in that direction. So it's not Bottas fault. But I can understand why Russell ended up where he did and ended up on the grass

Did he cause it? Or was it just Bottas moving over to the right, squeezing Russell, causing him to go onto the grass and losing his grip? Russell was overtaking. Racing incident, no one to blame.

Good to see the predicted Lewis vs Max battle is actually happening so far. If the first two races are anything to go on, we are in for an epic championship battle that we havent seen for a while. Seems like Lewis and Max are clearly two steps above the rest of the grid
