Watched The Short Game last night, Netflix documentary about eight of the world's best golfers at U8 level.  Really, really interesting.  Would recommend, even if you're not into golf.

Inequality for All - Robert Reich documentary on income and wealth inequality in America. Worth a watch, but preaching to the converted for me.

Space dive was on RTE tonight, about the red bull space jump and how they pulled it off. Brilliant in my opinion.

A sports doc on BT sport just started, 'Cornered' its called, about journeymen boxers who accept fights at short notice against up and coming talents. Good so far.

I thought this was pretty good.

Going to watch Leviathan (about the fishing industry) tonight.  That was shyte.

Watched The Gatekeepers. Doc on Shin Bet, I thought it was excellent. That the heads of the intelligence service all now have so much more of a nuanced take on the issue was the thing that stood out. As one of them said 'You become a bit of a leftie on retirement'.

Watched this about Easter Island, last week. Very informative.

90 mins.

Dr Jago Cooper uses new scientific and archaeological evidence to argue that Easter Island's demise was not solely due to its inhabitants' wilful expense of its natural resources.

Has anyone here ever watch Espn's 30 for 30 sports documentaries series?

The one about Vlade Divac and Petrovic, "Once Brothers" can seriously make anyone burst into tears.

I saw that one mate - powerful stuff, very moving.
At the other end of the emotional spectrum is my favorite sports documentary: "Do You Believe in Miracles? The Story of the 1980 U.S. Hockey Team" - Feb. 22 and 24, 1980, were 2 of the 3 happiest days of my life (the other being 5/25/2005) and that doc makes my whole body break out in goose bumps, moreso than the feature they made called "Miracle"

Its been mentioned in here, but The Bridge (2006) is a great documentary.

The director got permission to set cameras up at the Golden Gate Bridge with the belief that he wanted to document the history and beauty of the bridge. He was actually doing a documentary about the amount of suicides that happen with jumpers. Some amazing stories and heartbreaking footage. Watched it for the first time a couple years back after reading about it on here and it has stuck with me ever since.

Ive been watching a series from 1974 called The world at War.  I vaguely remember my arl fella watching it back in the day. Its 26 x 1 hour episodes and looks at all aspects of WW2.  Its superb, the footage is incredible and of course Laurence Olivier's V/O is magnificent.  The writing is great and the interviews with former German, Japanese and Allied officers, politicians and servicemen are also enthralling

Im 12 hours in with 14 to go

Highly recommended - Its available from BBC or a sneaky download on the usual sites

Horror in the East. An old BBC doc about the Japanese conduct during WWII, the Pacific campaign and their occupations of China, Manchura and various other places. Some grim stuff and some harrowing interviews with survivors and the Japanese perpetrators. Was reminded of it by the Japanese governments recent confused apology about their army's actions regarding comfort girls, they still seem to have a hard time facing up to the things that went on back then.

Soccer Coach Zoran and his African Tigers

Anyone seen this? It's about the South Sudan national team, thought it was excellent and portrayed the issues of the country brilliantly alongside the story of the team.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b03wctxp/Storyville_20132014_Soccer_Coach_Zoran_and_his_African_Tigers/

I did a bit of reading on Wiki afterwards and it seems like even though the doc makes it appear that the coach is setting up the team, he wasn't the first coach. It also seems that the team played one game before the Uganda match on the doc, but it was their first international match.

Still, a great story which I was pretty blown away by. Really recommend.
Journo: ''So, let me get this right, train, coach, train, plane.''
Rafa: ''No, coach first because we will not be walking to the train station.''
