Anyone seen Religulous?

That Bill Maher thingie?

Yeah, a good while a go tho. Decent enough watch that. He [Maher] does his usual thing. One, not sure what to call it, interesting scene when he visits that 'Jesusland'-theme-park-thingie, (don't remember what it was called - and to late to look up), fella playing Jesus giving the 3-way argument and Maher later in the car acknowledging him - nice touch.

Yeah, that was a ramble - deal with it ;D

Its a pretty fun documentary. Not extremely educational I feel but it pretty funny and makes jokes at ideas in various religions across the world.

I thought it was okay. Was quite surreal how they talked about some horrific things they did in such a matter of fact way. Got a bit bored with it though, to be honest.

Watched Inside Job the other day. Documentary about the financial crisis in America, the breakdown of Lehman Bros etc. Very good. Highly recommended.

Others I've watched recently.
Paradise Lost series - one of the best things I've ever watched, as mentioned countless times on this thread.
The Staircase - Unsure of the exact name, two part on author Michael Peterson's trial in the death of his wife.
The Trials of Darryl Hunt
Teen Murder : Micaela Costanzo - 16 year old murdered in a small town in Nevada
Witch Hunt - About a number of families in a town in California jailed for child molestation. Crazy stuff.

If you enjoyed the Paradise Lost series I'd give West Of Memphis a go.  Covers the same crime but from a slightly different angle.

Shocking how many people weren't prepared to be interviewed for this.  Just proves how complicit these bastards were to the collapse.

They did a chapter about the original property bubble that lead to the collapse, and the Tories are instituting another collapse right now, and don't give a fuck about it.

Haven't seen that one. Have watched loads of them and definitely agree that it is 50/50 in terms of quality and hipster shite. There is a very interesting one where they follow heroine addicts around Swansea. Worth a watch.

Really behind on this, but it's called Swansea Love Story. It's brutal.

I was a documentary called 'The summit' on Irish tv tonight. About the deaths on K2 in 2008.

15 climber went up and 11 of them died.

Thought it was sad and a real eye-opener into mountain climbing.

Excellent.

I think the most striking part of that film is when the young couple are sat round at the flat of the lad's (?) dad. Complete carnage, and seeing something like that brings home how there are some young people who pretty much stand next to no chance right from the very beginning.

K2 is the most dangerous mountain in the world, people who go up there are (or should be) well aware of the massive risk involved, heartless as that sounds.

Hardly comforting for people who knew them but at least they all died chasing a dream..

That was fucking awful. But it was trumped by the girl revealing that the lad's dad got angry with her because he couldn't find 20 quid and hit her and they lost the baby a couple of weeks after that. Normally a couple losing a baby would be a tragedy but here I was in two minds. On the one hand, I felt quite sad for them but on the other hand I felt that it was good that another baby wasn't born into that whirlpool of shite and hopelessness. It really was one of the most tragic documentaries I've seen.

I'll have a look for it and check it out. The one I'm talking about is when the inmate is on deathrow but has been given a date for his execution.

Wasn't that impressed by it. I posted a youtube doc of Chinese inmates about to be killed earlier in this thread. Thought it was much better. A Chinese TV show, would hold one last interview with the prisoners before they were killed. Powerful stuff. The Herzog one is good, but it felt a bit rambling to me. I couldn't work out what he was getting at, at some points he would make you feel sympathy for the people on Death Row at other points he showed them to be monsters, then he would rail at the system. Was not one of his better docs for me.
