I started this a few weeks ago, currently in the middle of S04.

Was I missing it before, or did they seriously up the comedy in this season?

I am 3 seasons in. Billions is like the slightly disgraced and less accomplished cousin of Succession. It's perfectly ok but also not as good as I'd expect somehow.

Watched Succession recently and really enjoyed it. Not the greatest show ever but a good solid 7/10 (maybe even 7.5) over the 1st series.

Started watching Billions. Few episodes in so far and got to say I’m pretty disappointed given the cast and some of the reviews I’ve seen. It’s been cheesy, obvious and too slick for its own good.  Not sure if it’s purposely like this or not.

Feels like an old skool type US show that’s trying to be edgy but failing. When I say that I’m thinking of things like Making a Murderer and Prison Break. 2 other shows that have a different premise but feel similar in terms of how corny but predictable they are.

I’ll continue watching since I’ve got to give it more of a chance before binning it. Should I expect it to improve though?

I think Jookie might just be the best fisherman on this thread.

It improves and if you've not watched the second season of succession and you think its only 7.5 damn... :D

Succession ruined this a bit for me as well.

The other thing that's killed it for me is the product placement is way over the top at times.  There's a whole conversation about Japanese whiskey or something that completely killed the immersion.

Got a season or two left to watch but not sure if I can be bothered.

View my ratings of TV shows as similar to how L’Equpie give out player ratings.

7.5 out of 10 is a good score.

Unfair to grade Billions since I’ve not seen a whole series but it’s trending towards a 5/10.
I think Jookie might just be the best fisherman on this thread.

Just watched the latest episode. It was aired in the States last night, be on Sky later this week. Clear to see it was filmed during Covid, plenty of space between people and no large gatherings, even at an event.

I'm still watching it and the level seems to have gone up a notch since it returned from it's covid enforced break.

Plot line seems tighter, dialogue snappier and quite funny in parts.

Paul Giamatti is not the bloke he once was, so a bit less physically intimidating perhaps. He no longer throws his weight around so to speak.

And apparently, according to an article I read last night, Damien Lewis is quitting. Though it wasn't clear if he's doing another season or whether this current season is his last.

Is he quitting due to losing the love of his life? I wouldn't be surprised if it is because of that and I can't see the show continuing without him. Unless they try to continue it with Taylor as the lead.

That'll probably be the biggest reason. I think he has two young children and I guess filming Billions will take up a lot of time and all spent away from his North London home.

Im enjoying it, don't pretend to know what they are talking about half the time and the back stabbing double crossing, can be hard to follow but its a good watch.

Will be interesting to see what happens if this is his last season whether they end it / carry on (could see them writing it so Axe is behind bars, Taylor takes over and turns bad or something)

Post-COVID return indeed miles better than the first part of this season.
The plat of every season is along the same lines but it's written well enough.

I think the way they ended this season, with D Lewis quitting the show, does set it up quite well and the character to take his place in the story seems a good one to continue on. Guess we'll see how they progress with a next season. Oh and please Paul, grow the beard back.

Not sure what i think of that ending but I guess that was always the way it was going to be done considering him quitting the show. Personally don't think the show will survive his loss.

Watched the finale last night, enjoyed it, not sure what direction it will go now and whether it will still be the same without DL, but thought it was a good way of wrapping the season up.

Do wonder what the finish would have been if he wasnt leaving!?

Stopped watching this before Ax left so rewatching it now from season one and forgot how enjoyable it was (seem to recall that the following seasons were not as good as one though).

Does the quality stay high for those seasons where Ax is away?

How are people finding this last series? Just finished ep 6 so now up to date. Enjoying it apart from the ridiculous cameos squeezed into every ep. Rappers, to chefs, to fucking wrestlers. Thought there would be more Axe after all the build up this summer too.

He was only missing for one season. It was decent, but there was definitely a hole. I’d say watch it for completions sake.

I thought this was only ten episodes for some reason, so binged then a few days ago. Finished just in time for the eleventh episode to become available.

Spoiler
Schemes within schemes as usual, so it’s time is up, really.

It’s great to have Axe back.

And Charles Snr really is the biggest prick of them all, isn’t he.

I’ve enjoyed but it’s just…I don’t know, it’s run it’s course. TBF, I think Succession stole its thunder regarding ultra rich arseholes.

Felt it was abit more reinvigorated this season but only so much it can do. Wags should get his own show though. ;D True re succession.

Agreed on the Wags show! The four main things I’ve seen David Costable in are this, Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul and flight of the Conchords. Three very different characters and he brilliant in them all, a true actor.
