Surely they're going to have to rethink the softer compounds for next weekend, right?

why?

they'll just have to do more than 1 stop each. the horror of it.

You'll have to ask Toto. It effected both Mercedes so imagine they'll have to go with a harder compound.

Anyone else would have ended up retiring.

Like Bottas and Sainz?

Pretty sure the tyres would have been fine if they could have gone on another 6 or 7 laps on the mediums like they probably planned to.

Good ending to the race. Maybe rather than artificial wet races we need to add 10 tyres which will randomly delaminate during the race  ;D

I hope they keep the softer tyres for next weekend as it goes. It means all teams will have to be more inventive with strategy and makes it more interesting

there is absolutely no reason why they shouldn't keep the softer tyres for next weekend. teams will just have to adapt.

there's nothing in the rules to say that they only have to do one pit stop.

Cool head Hamilton there, could easily have panicked and binned it in the gravel at the end. What a driver.

Glad that Red Bull didn’t win - big fan of Verstappen but despise Mr Ginger Spice himself Christian Horner. Couldn’t abide the thought of him crowing over a victory, the guy is a total knobhead. Hoping Max leaves in the next year or so.

If he hadn’t been able to get the car back to the pit lane after the win, would he have lost it? Or did I imagine that and it’s literally just once he’s over the line it’s done.

Think he’d have been fine unless rules have changed. Have seen it quite a few times where the winner has had to ditch the car as fuel needs to be in it (think 1l of fuel) at the end.

Mercedes are just driving to a delta. Doesn't make for good viewing so interesting where Liberty take it from here.

They need to do something about it. There was a very deliberate attempt by the FIA and Ecclestone to make sure 2005 wasn’t another Ferrari parade, and then the turbo hybrid changes in 2014 which either by design or luck broke Red Bulls dominance so they have done something in the past but for some reason it’s taken 6 years to make changes and unfortunately pushed those back another year because of COVID-19.

There was a regulation change a few years back. Merc kept winning.

They'll do fuck all. Making changes for next season when there's a major change the year would never fly. Especially when they want teams to spend less.

Not sure the FIA / Liberty are to blame.

There are huge spending rivals who are just so fucking inept that Merc are able to just keep winning. They should be applauded for that to be honest. It’s not like they are so massively outspending rivals that they have no chance.

I don’t think blame is the right word, as it’s not the FIA/Liberty’s fault it just happens from time to time that one team dominates to the point that it impacts the wellbeing of the sport itself.

As for budget, fair point but I don’t think Ferrari or Red Bull were necessarily massively outspending their rivals when they dominating either, certainly it wasn’t a massive talking point from what I can remember.

Meh, it’s very different... you’re right, they were non white, but it’s very different for a black man to make it in F1.

Japan has been one of the major contributors to F1 over the years.

But how many black F1 drivers have their been?
How many have won?
How many black people have even been engineers, or pit crew?

Talk about breaking the glass ceiling, he’s broken the glass floor.

Yes, Japan has been a major contributor to F1, and that’s the point. Only 2 countries with a sizeable black population have made a contribution to F1 I’d say, the UK and France but they are still a small % of the population so statistically it was always going to be long time to get a black driver into F1, and let’s not forget it’s not just out of the reach of most black kids, it’s out of the reach of most kids full stop (there’s a reason why they names like Jenson and Lando!)

F1 has alot still to do. Not just in terms of BAME but also female inclusion as well. Also lets not get started on LGBTQ+ inclusion. There are races in a F1 calendar where some fans could be arrested just for attending.

There have been small steps. Karun Chandhok and Susie Wolff for example have 'made it' to F1.

F1 just isn't a sport where you can scout a housing estate and pick out talent and stick in an F1 car.

Hopefully the new working group within FIA/Liberty can make some strides. Because it cant be a token gesture

Anyone think Albon’s penalty was harsh? Magnussen was recovering from a poor previous corner and I felt should have left Albon the room on that basis.
