USA - The LFC Rangers - can you help?
« on: July 26, 2010, 02:54:32 pm »
Just posted this on the main board.

Boys and girls in the US of A.

This poster is about to start appearing throughout the USA courtesy of a group of fans who refer to themselves as the "LFC Rangers (Texas Division)". Can you please notify your local sports journalists of the poster and explain the reasons behind it - that Liverpool fans want Tom Hicks and George Gillett to sell up at a fair price to people who can do the football club justice?

For example, you could email it to Keith Campbell, sports editor of the Dallas Morning News: kcampbell@dallasnews.com

Cheers all.

Not one for me to answer Brownie mate - it's not our work - we're just promoting it and helping out. All pass on the question dude.

P.S. Nice first response to start to the thread eh? ;)

OK - the response.

We understand that Gillett wants to go, and that Hicks is the sticking point, driven by the need to bolster the balance sheet of Hicks Sporting Group (with a high valuation for LFC). We don't believe that there will be any movement until after the 'auction' of the Texas Rangers, which may go ahead on the 4th August. In the meantime, we need to pile the pressure onto Hicks.

Anyone on twitter? Maury Brown and Dan Kaplan (this is him: http://twitter.com/dkaplanSBJ ) might have senses of humour. Might not. But there you go.

Mitchell Schnurman e-mailed as he's been vitriolic about Hicks in his recent op-eds in the Star Telegram.

Don't worry about comments - it's the o.p. that matters - next to nobody will even register the comment.

And that this has been the perpetual story from the moment he took over. Gillett has been trying to get out for years, and has been trying to get away from Hicks from the moment he got into bed with him. Hicks is and always has been the problem. Remember that period where Moores, Parry and Gillett were all huddled together, cowering from the ogre from Texas? Gillett is not a big LBO guy, done lots of building businesses and sports.....he was well liked at his hockey team. Unlike Hicks who is a Bush loving, LBO Alumni, hated by the fans of teams wherever he goes. Not that Gillett didn't make the fuck up of a lifetime inviting Hicks in, but getting Hicks out of the club has always been the problem....and one that still very much remains.

To be fair though, Gillett loaded debt on the Canadiens when their family bought them too. He's no saint. But yeah, the LFC Rangers have good reasons for their choice.

Again, it'd be helpful if people could follow up and try and show solidarity with the Rangers and Stars fans. Albeit, with a handful of posts on this entire forum yesterday, it's unlikely to make much of a difference. I'll post it on the Facebook site.
