How fucking good are PSG's center halves if they let him go? I honestly think he's the most able defender at the club, there's absolutely no weakness in his game.

Steps out and drives our backline forward well, putting us on the front foot

Will make a few mistakes doing it, but it is positive defending and is the way forward

Thiago Silva is easily one of the best in the world, and then they went and spent 30m Euros (or something like that) on Marquinhos. Not hard to see why he felt he was frozen out.

Great match by Sakho today. Exceeding my expectations at the moment. Hope he keeps it up!

Well, uh, they do have the best centre-half in the world starting for them.  So, there's that.

But I agree, Sakho is our best CB.  We will see how brave the manager is once some of our injured begin to return.  I'd start him over Agger if we return to playing a conventional back four.

Noticed that after that first half at Swansea he hasn't really gone to ground unless he was sure of the tackle.  Quick learner then?  Or possibly too excited?  Either way very impressive displays so far, when played in his natural position.

Think all our defenders have played well this season when called upon - Sakho's the one which had the biggest question mark over him given he was coming into a new league and his career had stalled a bit (from what I'd read). So far - it's very early days of course - he's been excellent both with and without the ball. I love his confidence and his decision making on the ball (even when he's flicking it to a teammate 25 yards from our own goal). Can't really ask for much really.

Mamadou Sakho Stats Vs #SAFC
47/49 96% passing
100% ground duel win (2/2)
80% aerial wins (4/5)
100% clearance success (8/8)
100% tackle win

Ridiculous. What a player he will end up being, only 23 years old. Surprised people are so nervous about his passing, I think he looks so confident and assured.

I'd say Skrtel comes out, Sakho moves in to the middle with Agger on the left. c:

And the direction of those passes...I dont have percentages, so let's just say that a hell of a lot of em were forward passes to players up the pitch. That was as pleasing to see as him winning all those headers.

If we stay with 3 at the back then Skrtel's position is there for the taking.

Agreed.

In the case of 2 CBs, I'd honestly start Toure and Sakho but that's a nice problem to have.

He has the confidence to go for the more risky pass which beats the press and sets us up for the counter. It is great to see such bravery on the ball from such a young CB adapting to a new country.

Bloody hell, he is what 23? If he carries on improving at this rate we could have a top class CB for the next 10 years. If we do go back to 4 at the back it is going to take some doing to dislodge this fella.

Absolutely brilliant, been really impressed by him.

He can receive the ball under pressure and retain possession, such a priceless value to have in a centre back and something that sets him apart under Rodgers. Before he signed, hadn't seen him kick a ball so was worried whether or not he was one footed, but he's comfortable with both feet which helps him to pick out players in tight situations.

He just looks like a very complete defender and any fears of him not being able to fit have been quashed for me. Really want to see us play three at the back with Sakho central, think he'd be even more of a monster there.

To be fair to PSG, they have by far the best centre back in the World, and bar Varane, the best young centre back in the World too. That with Alex to back it up, who himself is quite handy.

Thought Sakho was great today as has been said. So refreshing to see a centre half who actually loves attacking the ball. We've lacked that. Looks the part on the deck too.

I've seen Silva play and been very impressed. Not seen much of that Marquinhos lad, hard to imagine an 18 year old being better than Sakho's level.

LOL, so the stats suit you fine here.

Sakho was a beast and as the game grew the players trusted him more with the ball. He played it on the floor and one-touch often as well. Pleasantly surprised to see this mountain of a man also have good technique.

Had a few rocky moments against Swansea and Southampton but was good against United and excellent today. All he needs is more games to settle in and I think it's a certainty he'll be one of the best defenders in the league. He has everything - pace, power, reads the game well (as shown by 2 or 3 really superb interceptions today) and is deceptively good on the ball too (looks Traore-like with the ball at his feet but can pull out some brilliant passes in tight areas).

Brilliant signing, could go on to be Brendan's best, imo.

Glad he played well and won his first game. He will always be highly rated by us, and I hope the best for him and Liverpool!

A lot of comments were quite accurate, a beast in the air and very powerful. Good on the ball but sometimes a tiny bit overconfident, which results in some risky plays (hope he keeps on improving on that)
