This is it. After one bad performance from defence it is because of Agger missing.

I expect some lads to come here in a while and demand that Skrtel is shit and should be sold. The lad could have 5 shockers in a row and still would be our most consistent plazer of the season by a mile.

And Jamie is playing very good since he is back.
What on Earth are you on about, you paranoid loon? Skrtel is almost everyone's player of the season. Why do you react like this whenever someone praises Agger? It's ridiculously stupid.

Redmark that's not true
Carra was unaware someone was running in behind him
Coates went to cover the run
Carra lost his bearings for a split second
He had 2 choices
Close the eventual crosser or fill the space Coates left to keep the back 4 in shape

He did neither

Watch the replay, Skrtel actually starts going for the ball and ducks away from it.

I agree, but Skrtel wasn't at fault for the second goal in my book.

He shouldn't have ducked that header for the third, it was there to be won and Jose wasn't expecting him to leave it, all of a sudden it was on Jose when Skrtel should have dealt with it.

I'll be shocked if Carra plays another game for Liverpool.

Skrtel Coates until Agger is fit.

Really? Still seems 3rd choice CB despite another poor game. Really really wish Coates would play for us whilst Agger's out.

Even Martin has started to look shaky again and struggled alongside Carra in the last two games. Can't wait for this partnership to be reunited.

The problem is that Agger's never going to be there fore a whole season - we need a new CB if Coates isn't the answer.  Agger can continue playing a bit part role

I agree.  We desperately need to find out if the Coates/Skrtel partnership can manage for 50-60% of the games next season.  Frankly, the way we need to view the CB partnership next year is that Agger will be providing cover for his backup (perverse I know, but when Agger's backup can be reasonably expected to play more games than Agger, it's true nonetheless).  So if Kenny isn't comfortable with the idea of Coates playing 60% of the games next year, then dear God we need to pick someone up because if I'm forced to watch Carra play 20+ games next year I'm going to go insane.

Hate to say it but if Carragher does play 20+ games next season, I think we are going to be in a similar one for this season.  Even if Kenny doesn't think Coates is better than Carragher, we should play him for the rest of the season to see what we have.  We can't continue with the current situation.

Was out for "a few" weeks on March 1st.

So he can't be too far away. But with Agger you never know, sadly.

Really need him and Johnson back for the FA Cup semi.

still think skirtel was one of our best players from what i saw ..looked powerful mobile and put in the effort .
Ye made some huge blocks/last ditch tackles. He set up the attack for our goal with a strong aggressive challenge in Wigan's half. Then got his head onto the ball which set up Suarez for his handball goal.

The penalty wasn't really his fault, was just natural instinct, there was nothing else he could do about letting Moses get a free header a few yards out, should've been cleared in the 1st place a bit better by Carra who was kinda off balance.

He still looked good against Arsenal and Everton alongside Carra then had the lapse against QPR, he's been so much better than everyone else this season (defence included) he's allowed that.

Having a solid back line (Johnson, Skrtel, Agger, Enrique) provided us with a solid foundation even when we weren't playing that great.

With injuries and individual loss of form we should be appreciating that we're missing it now.
I'm really hoping Sturridge busts out the wacky dip when he scores.

Well what do ya know Skrtel wins our man of the match for Wigan...

Agger thinks he is the player of the season for sure - class words:

Asked who'd get his vote for LFC player of the season, the Dane told the Official Matchday Programme: "Martin, without a doubt. I don't think there is any other choice.

"He has been so consistent.

"I'm not sure how many years he has been here but he's improved every season. This year he has become better and better.

"I think in most games he has been our man of the match.".

Yeap. They deserve all the plaudits this season. They've missed Lucas for nearly half the season and they've hardly struggled when played together.

Any recent news on Agger??? He is sorely missed

From today's Charlie Adam interview:

Quote
As well as Adam, Liverpool’s squad has been depleted by injuries to Craig Bellamy (calf), Glen Johnson (calf), Daniel Agger (rib) and Martin Kelly (ankle).

However, Dalglish hopes to have some of those names back for this weekend.

“They are all making progress,” he added.

“They are all training to various degrees and we will monitor them throughout the week.

“If they’re ready to play they will come back into our plans for Sunday.”

I very much doubt we'll see Agger that soon though, I'd be happy just for Coates to play and a senior right back to be fit.
I'm really hoping Sturridge busts out the wacky dip when he scores.

Starting from this August, I positively demand a full season (or as close to it as possible) of the Skaggerwocky guarding our dear Pepe. With Johnson and Enrique at either flank most of the time, and a reinvigorated Lucas screening. A FULL SEASON.

Get Coates starting every round of every cup - FA, Europa, Carling - to give one of the beast's heads a rest, and so the poor bastard doesn't wonder why on Earth he's even here.
After we bring in [I hope] some more [proper] attacking [and midfielding] quality in the summer, I'm utterly desperate to see what can be achieved with a mean defence, and a strong midfield, and an efficient offence.

I steadfastly refuse to believe that a team of Reina; Johnson, Skrtel, Agger, Enrique; Lucas, Ingredient X; Gerrard; Suarez, Ingredient Y, Ingredient Z, and a squad of young backups that we've pretty much already got, cannot put up an impressive fight in the premiership. We're only "shit" because a couple or so of the cogs clearly need replacing, and that makes the whole engine falter. Adam, Carroll, Henderson and Downing can still play an important part, but as a supporting cast; perhaps more, but only if they show the inititiative, learn the game and how to make the most of their opportunity to perform for Liverpool FC. Kelly, Robinson, Spearing, Shelvey, Bellamy... those are superb subs, worthy of 20+ significant appearances a season. We have Sterling, Suso and Adorjan coming through pretty fast, who might well form a formidable trio for years to come if given a fair shot when the time's right.

I simply cannot concede that these are merely mid-table foundations here, I cannot. Just 2 or 3 inspired top-drawer signings (and believe it or not we have done a similar thing recently in nabbing Suarez, Bellamy and Enrique for a total of ~£30m), some greater tactical clarity and consistency, and our most vital performers staying fit - we'd be whispering about challenging for the title again before too long (and not in a delusional sense)! A wasteful/underwhelming summer could seriously fuck things up though. For the future of Kenny, Steve, Luis, Pepe... it's looking increasingly crucial.

So why post that in this thread? Because aside from picking up the first piece silverware in over half a decade, the single greatest, most hope-inspiring thing to come from this season for me has been the emergence of a true, proper partnership at the heart of the defence. Two quality footballers in their own right when mind & body are right, their combined contribution to our side's stability has been thrown into sharp relief by its absence, even though Skrtel's still been bringing it. This is the only genuine natural duo in our team at present; Gerrard-Suarez is in its early days yet, and fngers crossed for Lucas-Whoever at the heart of the side, whenever that appears. I'm probably happier this season with Martin and Dan than I am with anyone else, including Craig, Jose, Glen, Steve, Jay and Raheem. Accentuate the positive.

Never thought I'd say it but I'm happy (ish) with these injuries given his past record.

These are unforseen, unlucky injuries if you like, that can happen at anytime, to any player, and has nothing to do with track record.

Its one all players have to accept.

The promising thing is this season he has appeared to be free of the injuries that have plagued him in recent seasons.

See, it has nothing to do with what side he's on, simply playing along Carra turns players to shit, making them do things they've not done all season.

Still my player of the season though.
