yeah they got thunped 0-3 at home vs Holstein Kiel  :o  Dreadful start. They had a very young centre back pairing too, including David Bates, 21 year old Scottish player.   No idea how HSV will get on this season, could be a slog!

Tell you who was impressive though for Holstein Kiel, attacking midfielder Jae-song Lee, they only signed him last week from the K League in south Korea. And he slotted right in, with 2 assists.

FC Köln had a good start though winning away at Bochum.

Yeah I could see HSV not getting promoted. Köln however have a good shot of quickly returning

shame that one that hit the cross-bar late on didn't go in, would have been a cracking goal!

Nice to see St Pauli get a good start to the season. They had quite a lot of struggles last season and where not safe in the league till quite late in the season, so hopefully this one, they are much more consistent and strong.

Thanks for the links again Jason, appreciated!

Only needs one chance. Frankfurt can count themselves unlucky to be fair.

yeah, shame really, Frankfurt had had a couple half chances before, and where playing well, and then they came straight back and crafted another chance straight away.

Problem is, with Bayern of course, they have the quality to punish even if not playing well.

And there we go again, 2 headers, 2 goals from Lewa.

Just amazing how they just put those two chances away like that. It'll be hard for Frankfurt to come back from this now.

way this is going, Bayern could get 5 shots, and score them all!

Poor start for Frankfurt's new goalie Frederik Rönnow too, he was in no mans land for the 2nd, and didn't look too great on the first. Hrádecký will be a huge miss for them this season.

The second one was a bit poor, on another day Lewardowski would already have a hat-trick. It's hard to look past Bayern again. I would love someone to challenge them, hard to see where that opponent would come from at the moment though.

Should have been a red to be honest. So frustrating the free kick into the wall. Going in just 2-1 down would have given Frankfurt at least a chance.

Kinda feel bad for Rönnow. He's had a horrendous debut, huge step up from Brondby to this.

Said it here a few weeks ago, I can see this being a really really difficult season for Frankfurt, they have lost some very important players this summer. As well as a new coach coming in of course.

It's a shame I would have liked to see Frankfurt do something, but its going to be tough for them. As you say its been a rough night for Ronnow, at least he won't have to play Bayern every week though.

1st Round of the DFB Pokal this weekend.

And holders Eintracht Frankfurt are out, beaten 2-1 by SSV Ulm who play in the 4th tier of German football in Regionalliga Südwest.

Bayern squeezed by another 4th tier team SV Drochtersen/Assel 1-0, they played a very very strong line up and did dominate, but relied on a very late Lewandowski goal.

Another bundesliga out in the 1st round, Vfb Stuttgart beaten 2-0 by Hansa Rostock.

And Bundesliga 2's Jahn Regensburg also get giant killed, by 5th tier side Chemie Leipzig.

No such trouble for Borussia Mönchegladbach though, they beat 5th tier side BSC Hastedt 11-1.

Thorgen Hazard, Raffael and new boy Allesane Plea all scored hattricks.

You see some great grounds in the first round of the German Cup. TuS Dassendorf's VIP lounge is a bus shelter:

and one end of Weiche Flensburg's stadium is a beer garden:

Also, Schalke play exactly the same brand of dour, cynical, safety-first football against fourth-tier teams as they do against Bundesliga sides.

How perfect is that  ;D  A beer garden goal end!

Tonight the Buli is back.

Very dissapointing to see how much injury trouble Hoffenheim have going into this game  >:(
Kramaric, Demirbay, Hubner, Amiri, Rupp, Geiger and Grillich are all injured.  To say they will be stretched is understating it!

Bayern have a full squad to pick from apart from Gnabry.

I've read lots of individual previews of teams on various places, but not an overall one.

But if you can be arsed listening to a podcast - http://talkingfussball.com is worth a listen.
And they have a very good preview show for the season:

Surprised Bayern didn't go big in transfer window. Just not much activity from them aside from getting Goretzka for free.

Reckon Bayern will go big next summer in replacing Ribery and Robben. They are still strong this year with 'just' Goretzka, but also Gnabry coming back.

Next summer though, will be nervous times for a couple clubs, who of course Bayern will be happy to take their best players from.   Bayer Leverkusen are likely to be in most danger.

Even though I am very happy for the league to start, can't say I expect anything from this game, just cos Hoffenheim are missing half their team!

Such a shame. It'd been far more interesting if Nagelsmann was able to put out a more competitive team. I mean, look at the difference in those 2 benches, sad state of affairs.

Bayern or it's main sponsor dressing spectators in white is pretty apparent. I'm not too sure how to feel about it, as it is a marketing ploy and I despise marketing (Bill Hicks, anyone?). It's marketing people using their brains. How long are they doing it for?

I have to say watching Bayern's home games is the worst. I hate the constant singing by their supporters, because their chants are dull as fuck...

Bayern or it's main sponsor dressing spectators in white is pretty apparent. I'm not too sure how to feel about it, as it is a marketing ploy and I despise marketing (Bill Hicks, anyone?). It's marketing people using their brains. How long are they doing it for?
Think they've been doing since they moved stadiums.

Brandt, Bailey, or both?

they've been doing it for a few years, I think it's actually T-Mobile workers who get free tickets to wear those white costumes!

Advertising is just such a massive part of the game isnt' it. I don't like it, but if you are going to do it, there
's far more offensive ways than this. to be honest, it just makes me laugh thinking about them having to wear that get-up all game  ;D

Brandt, Bailey, or both?

Bound to go for Brandt, which will make me very sad lol. They are welcome to go for Bailey! Just don't want to see Brandt and Havertz there.

Yeah. They've been doing it since 2005 apparantly. German footy mag "11 Freunde" have had a story about it. A journo asked to be part of the T and wrote about it. Link is here, but in German: http://m.11freunde.de/artikel/best-2017-unser-autor-hat-sich-bei-einem-bayern-heimspiel-das-telekom-t-geschmuggelt

The gist of it is that it was a dull experience. The people dressed in white are always Telekom-apprentices from a different town every game. Most of them didn't care about football, but took it as a day out. And most importantly they're not allowed to go to the toilet. They're not punished though if they do... ;)
