Its definitely a film more on contiuation of Skyfall than Casino Royale, if that makes any sense. I guess people would want something a bit slower, a bit more, espionage, cold war-style?

Do you mean in terms of action, storyline-pacing and whatnot? I'd agree with that. Casino Royale was at one end of the spectrum, Quantum of Solace on the other. Going by the trailer, this sits with Skyfall somewhere in the middle. I'm ok with that, but I was kind of geared up for something else from the first trailer.

The cast for this one looks incredible. Can't wait to see Christoph Waltz in particular.

Pretty much. Skyfall was a big blockbuster but pretty much based in the UK. This one seems like the same sort of blockbuster but on a wider geographical scale maybe to go in line with Spectre's reach. Casino Royale clearly more low key.

I too would like Casino Royale style film but I loved Skyfall so as long as its a good blockbuster, then there is nothing to complain about.

No real surprise but Sam Smith has recorded the song for Spectre

It's called 'Writing's on the Wall' and will be released 25th September

Sam Smith is a boring and safe choice in my opinion.

Would have been more intrigued if it was The Who.

Whoever it is, it's just 4 minutes of opening credits filler to me

Really disappointed in that choice. It may only play in the opening titles, but the theme always plays a massive part for me. I'm biased though, because something about Sam Smith just annoys me.

In terms of Craig's themes in general, Adele was safe but brilliant. Jack Black and Alicia Key's effort is disliked by most but I didn't mind it. I think Chris Cornell's is by far and away the best though. Hard to make a rock song with Bond elements without it sounding corny. I don't know what fans in general think of it, but I'd put it up there with the very best Bond songs.

I like all three of the Craig Bond themes. I'm sure the new one will be decent enough.

The Jack Black one always sounds like it's on the verge of a massive chorus but then never quite gets there, it's a tease. Surprising that U2 have never done one. That thing they did for Batman Forever was pretty much a perfect Bond theme.

They did write Tina Turner's ridiculously derivative GoldenEye theme, but that one is pretty much forgettable.

(No, you're thinking of Goldfinger.)

And then there was Ringo's one...

Great stuff. Have to say they got it right most of the time there. However much I might love the work of Johnny Cash or Pulp, they were an unlikely fit for Bond. As for Ace of Bass, why did anyone think that would work?

Blondie maybe have a case for missing out with the better tune, though.

I know what to make of it. It's instantly in the bottom 3 Bond songs.  Mainly because it's fucking well not a Bond song.  And you can't hum along to it.

As Alan Partridge would say 'stop getting Bond wrong'
"We have to change from doubters to believers"

Oh well. Good Bond songs aren't exactly a must, they're just a nice little accompaniment to the films.

The Adele one didn't scream action movie but at least I could stomach the song.

Doesn't build to anything and has no memorable hook....if it had had a big chorus of some sort it would have been alright.
"And on the pedestal these words appear: 'My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings: Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!' Nothing beside remains."

It's the fact that the Bond orchestral backing is so faint and subtle that it just doesn't feel like a bond song.

Best definition of a good Bond song:

Could Alan Partridge sing to it while driving.

Sam Smith, nope! (But I quite like it as a song)

You guys and gals heard how LONG Spectre is by the way 155-160 minutes. Better be epic.

The first minute alone sounds perfect for Bond.

And after all the shit the song is getting

'Writing's on the Wall' is the first James Bond song in 23 attempts to reach the UK number 1 in the charts
