Urgh, confirmed afternoon games on the Saturdays now. Fucking c*nts. Will still be good but not the same.
Sweet. 7/8oc kickoffs for the Europeans. We'll be getting night time football ;) Possibly the biggest club final ever in football this match

A little taster - or reminder - of the last time they met each other in the 2004 Copa Liberatdores semi-final:-

'La Pelicula - Boca vs River - Semifinal de libertadores 2004 (Completo)'...

<a href="https://www.youtube.com/v/PG9ATJNE7Bw" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" class="bbc_link bbc_flash_disabled new_win">https://www.youtube.com/v/PG9ATJNE7Bw</a>

https://www.flashscores.co.uk/football/south-america/copa-libertadores/
https://www.livesoccertv.com/competitions/international/copa-libertadores/ (tv stations around the world showing the game live, + great for IPTV)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Copa_Libertadores_broadcasters - tv broadcasters around the world - more may likely be added due to additional interest...

There are no away goals rule in place for the Final - it'll 90 minutes each leg - followed by 30 mins of extra time if level in the 2nd leg, and if still level... penalties :)

A 4pm local time kick off in Buenos Aires... should be a 7pm kick off UK time :)

Will it be shown on telly in the UK?

EDIT - Yes mate it is. BT Sport 2 and FreeSports are both showing the game live on UK tv.

Hope so mate - though none of the Copa Liberatores has been shown live on UK tv so far (given certain channels losing footy coverage and still raising prices it's baffling they don't).

Always a chance Permier Sports or FreeSports may be trying to do a deal for it...

Either way there should be plenty of quality streams & acestreams knocking around for this (plus it'll be on certain IPTV services for those that have that)

https://www.live-footballontv.com/ is a good place to check on these things - usually quite quick to keep things updated...

If you're on social media ask the likes of BT Sport, Sky, PremierSports and FreeSports etc if they'll be showing it - the more that ask the more they may be inclined to try and do a deal to show it... maybe even Channel 4 :)

I was reading something the other day about a Boca fan setting his friends house on fire because he supported River. Might have been the other way round but either way ...

Can't imagine how gone my arse would be if I supported either of them. The South Americans are truly mad for football, best of luck to both of them, will try my best to watch this.

Great news! Hopefully gets good viewing figures and they pick up the whole thing next season. I'm surprised someone hasn't anyway, I reckon it'd be pretty popular over here if done right, it's been tried a little bit before on other channels but they'd do something like Sao Paulo at home to some Bolivian bums in a half empty Morumbi at 2am or show a Libertad home game and they have about 1000 fans. Show Penarol, Racing or someone with mental fans at 11pm and I reckon people would love it.

Suspect kickoff times are the main problem, if they could get the viewers likes of SKY, BT would bid for the rights to the whole competition, but late night, early morning kickoff times midweek not viewer friendly, when most in the UK will be in bed, as it happens the 5pm local kickoff times on a Saturday, for both legs are perfect, for UK/European viewers.

Away fans banned from this..lol

Tim Vickery article on Boca v River rivalry.:

There are huge derby matches all over South America. The history of the continent's football is based on city rivalries. Unlike, say, Spain and most of Italy, the big rivalries are not between different regions of the country, but between different teams from the same city.

So why does Boca Juniors vs. River Plate stand out?

There are two explanations. One is a consequence of the importance of Argentina to Latin American football. The game was introduced, especially in the south cone, by the British. But it was Argentines and Uruguayans who did much to carry the sport north. And since Argentina is so much bigger than Uruguay, the entire region tended to take its cues from there.

Before he became "Che," a young medical student made an early 1950s trip around Latin America. The mere fact that he and his friend were Argentine was sufficient to install them as football specialists as they made their way north. Other countries have embraced much of Argentine fan culture. And as Boca-River is Argentina's biggest derby, its importance was guaranteed.

The second explanation has to do with the nature of the rivalry itself.

Both Boca and River grew up as neighbours, in the dockland area of Buenos Aires. Boca have stayed put. River, meanwhile, long ago achieved the immigrant dream of moving out to the snooty suburbs.

It gives the two old rivals clear and contrasting identities. The Boca area is colourful, full of character but run down. Its streets are narrow and cramped. For this reason the club's stadium is known as the Bombonera -- the chocolate box. It is built straight up. Not for vertigo sufferers, Boca's ground pulses pure passion, with the crowd intimidatingly close to the action.

Out in Nunez, River's neighbourhood is all wide avenues. There is plenty of space. The corridors are as so wide they could be in the United Nations building. In a giant bowl, the fans are far from the pitch. Compared with the warmth of Boca, the ground feels cold, often literally, with a wind blowing across.

Both clubs moved into their legendary homes just before Argentine football entered its 1940s golden age. They are, then, well defined symbols. Sociological studies reveal that the fan base of the two clubs is broadly similar. But in terms of image, of what they appear to stand for, they could hardly be more different. Boca are a celebration of working class sweat and solidarity. River are the more cool and cerebral bourgeoisie.

This fault line -- the haves and the have-nots -- is present in many of the big South American derbies. So it proved easy for the rest of the continent to identify with Boca-River, and boost still further the prestige of the Buenos Aires Superclasico.
Either we are a club of supporters or become a club of customers.

My mate was at one of Boca’s group games in May, against Allianz Lima.  He was sat in the ‘flat’ side of Boca’s stadium and sent me a clip: https://streamable.com/s/xet74/gjdyx  Slightly surreal seeing action from that angle, almost vertically above the guy.

Argentina is high on my list of places to visit, and a footy match would be one of my first stops. Tomorrow should be a good watch.

I actually already posted this in the Liverpool songs thread, but I'm posting it here because it's a belter. This isn't Boca or River, but another one of their crosstown rivals...San Lorenzo:

Puts us to absolute shame nowadays! Would love to see it.
