Tried all this - still uploading in poorer quality than designed.

Sorry dude but the compression facebook is using for the cover photos is at about 50%. You can test this by exporting from PS at 50%, it'll look the same. Bloody awful (especially for text). Wish they'd sort it out.

Tried all this - still uploading in poorer quality than designed.

Did you save it as a PNG.? PNG. is lossless, whereas JPEG tends to drop it's quality if you upload to sites. If you did all of that, then it's a problem with the site itself and not your image.

oh no i have been.....and my existing one is from some artwork done on here....but there are alot of pages....
