With my job I've worked all over the country - and even the smallest teams hate your guts - go to the smaller sides in Telford, Oxford, Cambridge, Down South, Midlands, North East and even the tiny, tiny teams despise you with a passion.

And there is a good reason for it.

I have actually a few mates that are decent that support the Mancs (And by that I mean ST) - but 99% of your fanbase are arrogant, ignorant, know-nothing buffoons - usually with an inferiority complex and obligatory bandwagon jumping tendoncies.

The only decent Mancs that I can talk to are my cousins and my uncle. I respect my uncle more than any other Manc I know of, especially the newer Mancs, because he's never worn the rose coloured glasses that seem so common with that lot. In fact, I think he hates some of his fellow supporters, simply because they're arrogant twats who think football started in 1992.

And it was he who told me the best way to piss 'em off was to tell them that their beloved Matt Busby not only played for Liverpool, but was club captain. That fact nearly earned me a punch in the mouth from a tanked up Manc in a pub, but damn, it was worth seeing the look on his face when he realised it was a Liverpool supporter who could tell him that.

The best way usually to find out if someone knows absolutely nothing whatsoever about football is to get themselves to identfy themselves as Manchester United fans.

Funnily enough, I got chatting to a manc about football last night and as it usually does it started to get heated. He started saying that we've never been and are never likely to be world champions. Then I said back to him "fuck off manc, forever in our shadow" to which he replied, "We've never been in your shadow. Even in the 70s and 80s when you were winning pot after pot after pot and we won jack shit you secretly wished you were us. Jealous because despite boring your way to title after title you could never match our crowds even when you had a division start. Bitter because nearly every time we played you rolled over and died even before a ball had been kicked.

Sadly i have the issue of having to deal with a few mancs. My birds, aunties fella is a manc (funnily enough he's from Kent originally), and my birds, sisters fella is a manc too (funnily enough he's from Blackpool.....St Annes to be exact). Its an absolute pain in the arse to sit there with them on Christmas day or have a bevy with them on birthdays or whatever, i mean they are decent lads....but when it comes to football, they shite they spout is unreal, they're fuckin gobshites!! Sometimes i just have to laugh and leave it at that, half the time they dont even know who they are playing at the weekend until they look in the paper

I do hav another mate who is a manc (not a proper manc tho) and he's alright, you CAN have a decent discussion with him about football (he even admitted to me that in Istanbul when we came back to 3-3 he celebrated, because he said for a team to come back like that from the dead in the CL Final against a team like AC - needs respect) and he will say it (mostly) how it is. Sometimes though, when he sends a text, half of it is absolute bollocks, but i just jib him off.

As you say its not really the team they support, just the staggering arrogance of both the fans and the club itself that gets people in the throat. And to be fair most of it has come from slur directly creating this arrogant siege mentality thats been passed on from team to fans.

I mean i can admit that united have been a fine side in the last 16 years or so, its not hard is it? I live half way down the Lancs, and like I said, mid 40's, so dont think I'm new at this 'debate'.

I accept we are really disliked, and have millions of JCL's. I'll have that Sir Alex can come across as a narky paranoid duffer at times. We also used to look enviously down the Lancs, and criticise your mob in the same neurotic, childish way you now do about us.

And of course, wouldn't swap it for the world. Clearly Top Dogs. A legendary manager, whatever his faults. A Club steeped in history, like your own. And the sweetest thing of all.....Still making that history, not just living in it.
