Booked Sri Lanka, it'll be the furthest east I've ever been but it looks bloody stunning, proper touristy/exploration holiday with some mates, looking forward to it.

I went in July, absolutely brilliant.

Make sure you do white water rafting.

The food is also amazing.

Usual for us again this year. Eurocamp in Brittany in a mobile home. I didn`t think 15 years ago that would ever be my cup of tea but stick me outside with a good book, copious coffee and a packet of cigs I am as happy as pig in shit. Daughter can go off with her mates all day, wife can go to the market thinking she is in a masterchef episode and all is good in the world.

Todos Santos (about an hour north of Cabo) for a week in July with a big group of friends. My friend's boss has a house on the Pacific just outside of town that he lets his employees use for free whenever they want, and bring whoever they want. We went last year and it was incredible. Todos is a great little town as well with some hidden gems.

My wife and I are saving up to buy a home in the next 3-6 months, so this more than likely will be our one big vacation this year. The house is free and our credit card points should pay for at least one round trip ticket, so we're feeling pretty good about it.  ;D

Depends on what time of the year you go but some part of the country is always under showers most of the year so you may want to make sure you're aware of that before heading out. It's a beautiful country, the people are real friendly and the food is the bomb. A lot of tourists stick to the beaches but I recommend visiting the hill country for the great scenery and weather and one of the national parks to get up close to elephants.

Anyone been to LA recently? Any recommendations on where to stay? Would like to be close to the Hollywood sign, the walk etc. Hotels seem to be quite expensive so anyone know of any decent areas close by that are good with transport. Was going to hire a car for a few days but was told traffic can be pretty horrendous, anyone confirm this?

I hated LA, much preferred San Fran.

I travelled for 8 weeks around starting from Vegas, death valley, Yosemite, San Fran, LA, Hawaii, Chicago.
LA was the least enjoyable part of trip and wouldn't go back

Looking at Slovenia for a few days and using Ljubljana as the main base - anyone know if it's easy enough to get to Lake Bled and also Postojna caves and Predjama castle by bus/train, as all the organised trips I've seen look pretty pricey. Thanks.

Cant help you with the other two but Bled from Ljubljana is easy enough, just go to the bus station and you can pick tickets up on the day pretty cheap if I remember rightly. Pretty sure it was around an hour/hour and a half each way.

Same.

The drive from Vegas to SF was one of the best experiences of my life. (We took the long way round)

Headed 300 miles NW on the 95 out of Vegas across the Great Basin Desert up to Mono Lake before carry on up through Yosemite Park and Stanislaus Forest arriving at South Lake Taho.  Then headed West right through the El Dorado National forest before skirting past Folsom and Sacramento into San Fran.

Would do that drive again in a heartbeat. :)

I visited those places a few years ago and it was all done by public transport. We went to the castle and caves on the way from Piran to Ljubjlana, I think, but should be fine from Ljubljana. If you do the castle and caves same day it might be a taxi between the two. Cant recall, but I dont think it was a normal bus we used, may have been a tourist bus.

LA is obviously quite polarizing (see the posts above), and can be expensive. And it’s fucking massive so not the easiest to navgate. But under the right circumstances is probably the most exciting city in the states for the food, the beach, the weather, the music. But loads of shite things too like millions of homeless people in MacArthur park.
walk or ride a bike on the prom from Venice beach to Santa Monica and beyond - stay in a cool hotel in Korea Town and explore Silver Lake which is the Portland of California. But it is massive and I did get a bit exasperated sometimes on Uber rides that took fucking ages. As a Brit I just walked around all week with a massive grin on my grid because I’ve seen most of it before on the Telly or in movies and I love tacos :D

Bolita hostel is definitely worth a stay. It is located near Corcovado National Park so you are in the middle of the rainforest surrounded by macaws, toucans and hummingbirds. They have their own private trails including wet trails. You have to bring your own food for your stay. Near San Gerardo we went to Cloudbridge which was a nice walk lots of waterfalls and birds there.

Do you mean with a partner rather than group of lads? From memory Verona isn't too far by train. Fairly small but nice for a couple of days.

Yep, with the wife. Cheers for the advice, I'll do a bit of research (in fact, might just buy the Italy Lonely Planet guide as we love visiting Italy so it'll be a worthwhile investment!)

We're off to Bologna for a long weekend in June and have done Rome, Naples, Lecce, Palermo and Catania in the past. Love a weekend in an Italian city fattening up a wee bit :D

Will need to start thinking about a break or two for 2019 but may just do a couple of wee trips this year so I could head to the likes of Cuba early next year. A few days in the North for the British Open and golf plus might try and hike / camp in Snowdonia as well. I usually go to the the States in Oct / Nov but its a bloody long winter then which is why this year I will go to the States plus Cuba after the New Year.

Me and the Mrs are looking at getting away for a week in May on a an all inclusive. Warm weather, decent scran and cold beer is all were are after.

Any recommendations of where to go? Based on TripAdvisor everywhere is the worst. Budget of about £500max but cheap as poss. Cape Verde was recommended but it's out of our budget for next year sadly

Still not booked anything. Hoping we find something good in the next few weeks the nearer it gets

The Széchenyi Thermal Baths are good fun. Especially after a night on the pálinka. There is a few good food and drink tours you can go on. One which involves a visit to the central market to learn about and try some Hungarian food and drink.

I'll show the Mrs that later and see what she thinks. Thanks for that.

She seems to be thinking Turkey and Antalya in particular
My dad and bro went to Antalya back in June and enjoyed it, said there were less English than your usual places but that was a positive. My dad said he would go back with my mum possibly in the next couple of months.
