4-2 up, loses 7-4.

Humphries piled the pressure on. And got over the final hurdle.

I assume you need some natural ability but must have to practice for hours.

The skill to switch to treble 19 if you hit a bad first dart is amazing.

My dad and me were OK at darts and my brother was very good and played county level and he practised every hour he wasnt working. Now his son is very good so I think it can run in families.

It's repetitive rhythm mate.  Their throw/arm is like a metronome, set at the speed they naturally throw at so it's difficult to slow themselves down as that's how they practice for hours and hours every day.

Ah, I don't mean the players, really! Of course they need to throw at that speed... but it seemed like almost no break between sets either, just a mad dash to the finish line. I think I'm comparing it to something miles slower like snooker, where you get time to digest what is happening, and the commentators get time to muse and mull and build the drama. Basically, I'm too old for darts. :D

You dont want a break when you are hitting it you want to carry on. Sometimes if your opponant throws fast you can slow the game down and put them off or vice versa. Lots of evil eye goes on too as a lot is in the head. Bit like a striker in footy.

I was talking about the pace of the whole thing, not of the players themselves. Just felt like a wild rush to the finish, rather than introducing some longer breaks in play to create tension. That's just my feeling, of course.

As to the doubles being "all in your head", they're the other smaller ones near the bigger ones that I also can't hit the right one of. That's how I think of them. The trebles are "the ones I hit by accident when just wanting to hit a certain number".

Fair play to Littler. He took the loss with a lot more maturity than most of his competitors would have.

Great game, but I really hope they keep the lad away from the Premier league, for his own sake. Of course, they won't obviously.

Well done Humphries, i thought when Littler was 4 2 up that was it.  Littler didn't drop off but Humphries upped his game.  My lad is made up as he had Humphries from the start in some fantasy darts thing.

Really enjoyable final with some of the best darts I've seen. I thought both lads came across really well and likeable but when Littler missed the chance win five sets, you could see the change in things.

Littler has an arrogant attitude that says 'I belong here' and he's right to have that so you can't blame him. He's a kid who knows he's as good as anyone out there already. Why wouldn't you have that attitude at 16? And attitudes like that help to a certain extent.

As for Humphries, he seems like a genuinely sound fella who can't half play. Made up for him.

I had a few quid on him at 5/1 before his odds starting lowering in the last month or so.  Would have won a lot more had Littler taken out that D14 or D7 to force an extra set.  Had 10/1 on Humphries winning 7-5 or 7-6 and there being more than 40 180s.  I think there were 36 in the end so that extra set would have surely seen 5 more the way they were throwing.

Premier League lineup is announced at 4pm today.  Surely Littler has to be in it?

Think that is unlikely.

MVG, Smith, Humphries, Price, Aspinall, Wright, Cross and 1 more from Noppert, Cullen, Heta, possibly Dobey would be my guess. Who knows though?!

I like Gary Anderson but he is 27th in the World.  Wright is 8th and is the only person to win a major other than Humphries in the last 5 tournements.

Humphries must be a bit pissed off, every paper has a picture of the losing finalist on its front page. If MVG had won 4 majors in a few months it'd be front page news in itself.

Given last  nights game was appointment viewing and the amount of media coverage?
