Just walked home from town after attending the vigil at St Georges Hall. Took me a while. Spent the time thanking my lucky stars that I'm a scouser. This city never ever fails to amaze me.
I loved the speeches by the family members. Especially the one from Anne Williams brother. Walked home feeling as they said an extra 2 inches taller.
King Kenny.  My hero. Their again showing true humility. Love that man.
Sorry lads. Just wanted to say how proud I am of our City our fans and the families of the 96. And I'd like to say thanks to my dad who's passed now. He was a true hero at Hillsborough he helped save many. As well as saving my life too. God bless dad. We got the Justice we deserved. YNWA.
Is right mate, just got back myself and that was incredibly moving. Margaret Aspinall is an inspirational woman, she didn`t have a script and spoke from the heart, she`s a scouser I will tell my kids about along with the real Iron Lady.

Kenny looked humbled and I was glad to see Andy Burnham after he gave his all in parliament today, he was also a blue who forced himself to sing YNWA!

I`ve sung YNWA in Istanbul, Dortmund, the Chelsea semi amongst many other occasions but I never felt it so deep and appropriate as it was tonight.

I'm one of those who've stood silent mate. Couldnt do the counselling. Me and my dad tried it. But gave up in the end. Hillsborough was never spoke about in ours. The channel was turned over when something came on or we changed the subject. Me and my sister went to most memorials. It became a tradition. My dad would go missing. I'm sure he went but not with us. The pain he seen was too much. I knew this.

Hard to talk to be honest pal.

Not that u asked me too btw way.

Fucking hell that man is as much a hero/legend as anyone ever associated with our Club.  yes, he is right up there with Shankly, Paisley and Kenny in my eyes.  The WORK he has done for so many years, Prof Scraton, a hero and should be beatified in my opinion.

So glad he works at my old Uni.  But can't wait to see the whole 5live broadcast.. that snippet was wonderful. He speaks so well and intelligently, I could listen to him for hours.  I can't imagine how much time he put in at home in the evenings/nights for more than 25 years to dissect and unravel the truth.

In reality, while we rightfully bow to the tenacity of the families, were it not for the efforts, meticulous attention to every detail, profound intellectual ability, and a gutfelt desire to see the truth emerge of Professor Scraton, then there is very little chance the justice would have been obtained.

Frankly the scholar deserves to be honoured beyond riches.

Spot on. He's a hero for me. I had the privilege to help on some of the 20th anniversary work we did on RAWK (Jim, Nikki and many others also should take a massive bow) and it's the fundamental principle that the facts are everything which gives such power to all of the work he is involved in.

No spin, no assertions, no sly digs, just forensic scrutiny and accurate reporting of the facts. That's why when the Independent Panel report came out there was nowhere left to go for anyone who read it.

It couldn't be passed off, it couldn't be dismissed for shoddy reporting and unfounded theories. 450,000 documents were reviewed, collated, cross-referenced and every conclusion the report was backed up by evidence.

And that focus on the facts has finally trumped the scandalous lies that were believed by far too many. Far too many who should have known better. Who should have looked beyond lazy stereotype and prejudice and seen not 'Liverpool fans' but 96 brothers & sisters and thousands of normal people who just happened to enjoy football but were cast as a 'tanked up mob'.

What is such a shame is the waste of that intellect on a project that should have ended in August 1989 when the interim Taylor Report was published. The greatest scandal of Hillsborough isn't that the facts were hidden for twenty seven years - the fundamental facts have been there all along. Taylor called it but the SYP heaped an enormous pile of shit on the facts and Kelvin McKenzie and the S*n colluded in making the shit stick. Thatcher and her nasty little lapdog Ingham wouldn't let Douglas Hurd criticise her favourite police force and the SYP clearly felt they could get away with murder - literally.

Phil has done an amazing job, but it's a job he should never have had to do. So many people have done so many amazing things over the last 27 years - but they should never have had to. 96 sons and daughters of Liverpool should not have died, and hundreds, thousands, an entire city, should not have had to fight for so long in the face of such indifference and such scorn.

It is. Definitely.  But at the same time it should never have come to this. The interim Taylor report was the prelude to this outcome but the establishment disgracefully protected their own for another 26 years. If drug dealers can have their ill gotten gains seized then the same should go for those who have lived on pensions they did not deserve for 26 years.

Hey Kev. Good to see you on here.

Hey Kev. Good to see you on here.

Good to be back. Though work will, I fear, suck me away again, but I couldn't let this momentous week pass.  Your post above is spot on too.
So much hard work, so much courage and dedication by so many people.  And they should be praised to the very rafters of the Kop for it.

But none of it should have been necessary were it not for the morally bankrupt liars all too eager to avoid the responsibility they were paid for or those all too willing to sell truth down the river to protect their own or further their career.

Team of carras, I wasn`t there mate but my brother and cousin was and it`s been a similar experience with them. I`ve tried to talk to them about it over the years but they just can`t talk about it, clam up and walk away. I`ve come to understand that the only people who will ever understand the difficulties of that day are the families and the survivors.

Good to see you Kev.

Been an emotional day. Was at work all day yesterday, but today I could enjoy the speeches by Andy Burnham, The Major of Liverpool tonight, and from the families, read the excellent posts on here, read the papers and follow the updates. If it's been emotional for me, I can't begin to imagine how emotional it's been for everyone directly affected. And it's not over.

This country should be very proud indeed to have Liverpool as a city within its borders.

Tef. I'm sure we're not alone. Must be many families who still can't talk about it.
Me and my sister talk about it all the time. It's consumed us all this time. But around mum. Not a word.
I try to tell my kids about it but choke up. I feel I'm burdening them with my problems. Now though. It's different.

Incredible brave man, I remember reading through a lot of the transcripts from the Stuart Smith Scrutiny. Phil accompanied a few of the families into the room to see Smith, the arrogance of Smith shone through those transcripts. rambling on with his dismissive words, on one occasion Phil had not said a word and asks during a pause ,"excuse me .may i say something please". Smith said NO. then words to the effect of Be quiet.  I can imagine Phils polite voice asking that question and to be dismissed like that sickened me.
Ive no idea how the families needed the HIP report. Anyone whose ever read Hillsborough. The Truth knew this was a massive cover up of an injustice.

I hope some more of you have had this happen today, for the first time in half my lifetime I was able to talk about what happened at Hillsborough without being distressed, angry and tearful - actually to even talk about it was a big enough challenge most of those 27 years. But yesterday and today I have been able to speak to my kids and Mrs in a normal manner , clear in the knowledge that I am proven correct in what I say, not that they ever doubted it, but the fact that many people disputed our version over the years would always cause me to either clam up or fume previously. Not now though. This fact in itself is now bringing tears to my eyes strangely.

Retired police officers who served in South Yorkshire in the 1980s have been told to be proud of their work, despite the Hillsborough inquests' verdict.

A message on a website for the force's retired officers said they had served dedicated and courageous careers.

The force's current chief constable was suspended on Wednesday because of the approach the force took to the inquest.

A statement by the retired officers said they were "proud" 200 of them had co-operated with the proceedings.

They did (and the mention of it in that post is simply a dig at West Yorkshire Police, who didn't. Repeatedly). They also let him 'go for a pee', without noticing him concealing a knife, hammer and rope which he dumped and were only found the following day.

The Ex SYP officers would do well to shut up till this is all finished and the results of the miners strike police handling is heard...I still don't understand how so few police form those days came forward to highlight the lies..Well actually I do ! And that's a disgrace in itself...So 200 Ex police officers cooperated with the inquiry! Really, almost as many statements were altered !!

Some exceptional people, people mentioned & posts in this thread.

My head is still spinning & probably will for a long time.

I have watched Burnham's speech a few times now & it truly is remarkable,as already stated i also thought after he delivered yesterday he'd be a leader of Labour one day & hopefully our country too. So refreshing to see an MP who is one of our own, speaking from the heart-delivering what he promised.

There are many who will be squirming now & wondering when they'll get that knock on the door.

I agree completely and what about Margaret Aspinall last night..With respect to Andy he is almost someone who could be looked on as a professional when it comes to public speaking but Margaret is just a ordinary lady who spoke so eloquently and unscripted too..from the heart and incredible really ! So moved mind to listen to all the speechs in the last two days

In retrospect the thing about the NARPO statement that utterly infuriates me is the title:

It was a bad day.

How bloody dare they!  How dare they call the correct verdicts a bad day - they have no shame.  This shows that behind the scenes (as this was intended for the cosy cabal of ex coppers) nothing, bloody nothing has changed.

It was a bad day.

Not the last, nor the worst, hopefully.

The focus now should not be on who the owners are, but limits on what owners can do without formal supporter agreement. At all clubs.

Its even on the main news page of my local news.  In Tucson, Arizona.

http://www.tucsonnewsnow.com/

Massive coverage here in Adelaide too

Still can't believe they put a picture of a someone shovelling snow on the front page of the The Times after the decisive day in  one f the greatest

I know that they apologised and changed it after an outcry, but the Times really has gone so far down in my estimation

Just wanted to take the opportunity to say how pleased I am that the truth has finally come out - now let justice prevail.

I was 11 years old when the disaster occurred. It was one of those 'where were you' moments in life and still remember being in my parents kitchen listening to my team Newcastle losing to Arsenal at Highbury on the local radio when the events of Hillsborough took precedence and became the focus. Unlike the filthy rags, the spoken media seemed to accurately gauge the gravity of what was occurring immediately.

On behalf of Newcastle United, a club whose fans passion rival that of Liverpool's I want to commend each and every one of you for never giving up on your pursuit of the truth. A small amount of faith in humanity and the system has been restored but I urge you all not to give up until the CPS approve the charges so that those responsible - SYP, Ambulance Service, SWFC & their engineers and the FA are fully held to account.
