I can`t decide whether I am enjoying watching all these great players really struggle or that simply some of the holes/greens are ridiculous and no better than 04

As much as I rant about Rory I really wish he’d sort himself out. So much talent currently going to waste.

My sons 2 favourite golfers are Rory and Jordan, both currently in a slump of some sort.
Rory’s control of the golf ball is shocking for one with that ability. Also I really wish he’d employ a proper caddie and get back to socializing more with the Europeans.

Current his game  isn’t working as I’ve never seen him hit so many shots of varying distances. Probably not the ball and all in the head

Seeing DJ shoot a 67 with the same more or less setup would indicate head gone issues with Rory

Nice, I’ve backed him each way. Is it generally playing easier today?

Dustin Johnson looking ominous though, safely finished at -4, will almost certainly be leading tonight you’d think.

Jinxed him, dropped 4 shots in the last 2 holes. Johnson well clear of the field now.

I think the fact that Rory had 4 birdies and not 1 bogey in the second part of his round (once the pressure was off), shows that it's mental issues with his game right now.

ATM yes. But lot of golf in between now and then. Last Ryder cup the likes of wood, willett, Fitzpatrick and Sullivan nosedived in form.

Stenson Casey and poulter would be better wild card picks right now

Could Poulter still qualify if he has a strong finish here?

Don’t what to call Phil a cheat, however that was fucking disgraceful. He hit a moving ball on the green to stop it rolling 30geet off. 2 shot penalty but should be a dq in my eyes. As blatant as can be. Or maybe he found a sprinkler on the green and was a free shot lol

Phil was a bad boy. :missus

Two stroke penalty for putting a moving ball.

He putts, goes past the hole, going down  slope, he runs up and putts it back past the hole. Then marks it.

Takes a 10 with his indescretion  on the hole.

Johnson +5 for his round and back in the lead! The two who shot 66 way earlier could be the final pairing tomorrow at this rate.

99 Open Championships, that was just as brutal, thanks to the final hole meltdown by Van De Veld the was 3 way ties for the lead which was +6.

US Open has often had brutal conditions scores of 287[+7] has ended up the winning score in the US Open a few times, 285 [+5] was the winning score as recent as 06 & 07.

No one minds it being difficult but they lost a few of the greens today. 15th i think. 15 foot putt for a birdie barely tapped goes 20 foot off the green, that's insane.
Might as well put windmills, clowns and shiny lights on the green and have a crazy golf off :)

Happened in 04 at the same course, they put pin positions in stupid places. You can't punish bad shots just to keep score as par.

The Open, esp in Scotland they keep the greens fair as they setup expecting the worst from the weather.

Berger and Finau were tied 50th before the day started, had the best conditions and shot on average 10 shots better and more than the those teeing off in the afternoon. Apparently one of the best courses in the world in the hands of the USGA resulted in greens that look a joke and a blind man could come up with better pin placements. It was a hard watch to say the least last night as a 77 suddenly was a decent round.

USGA will never learn, same in 2004 at the same venue when USGA ended up watering some of the Greens during play to slow the Greens down, Shinnecock Hills is due to host the US Open again in 2026, you can bet the course will be similar conditions then.
