i think that final sequence is benefitting from a bit of confirmation bias - this show has done long, silent, meticulous sequences very well before, and so just being long, silent and meticulous makes it good by association. i thought this one was not particularly impressive, and the 'shocking' climax utterly predictable from the moment they saw the aerial photo... but credit to them for taking the risk. it's like stewart lee spending 20 minutes making funny noises into the mic in the last episodes of comedy vehicle
the rest of the episode was pretty much superb though - as others have mentioned, i love the fact it's a show that's happy to be quite so elliptical, trusting the viewers to be able to work out what's going on. no handholding here
returning to my own personal hobby horse with this show, the sovietisation of paige continues apace, not least with this beautifully lit shot that poses her reminiscent of so many propaganda posters...
