I like the fact it isn't mainstream with every one going on about it, but like you say, given it's pure quality scripting it does surprise me too.

Sadly, even in comedy, people see 'politics' and give things a wide berth, even when they are the funniest thing on TV for years...

Watched In the Loop for the first time the other day. Class! That scene with Gandolfini and Capaldi at the bar is just epic.

Loved the meeting with the War Committee. :D

And the look on the American guy's face when Malcolm points out to him, he's not English.
Brilliant!

Edit - I'm finding hard not to write 'brilliant' after each time I post in this thread.

Unfortunately, even the most beautiful love stories finish, but they leave behind a lot of wonderful memories, like when my M1 and I kissed for the first time at Welkom, when she looked straight into my eyes and told me 'I love you'.

What are the chances of Malcolm joining the opposition?

He seemed quite on par with Stewart in one of the episodes, but that may have just been due to the calm after their brief truce.

Oh it will, and Peter Capaldi will win every award going.

But considering he already has an Oscar I don't think he'll be that bothered.

Watching it again... Some great lines in this one:

Nicola Murray... I'm the girl in the corner with the pint of cider and blackcurrant and the dodgy eye...

Julius: Do you know which hat I'm wearing?

Malcolm: is it your baldy swimming cap?...

Malcolm: I'm doing a television programme... You know Civilization with Kenneth Clarke?... it's like that only with more quim...

Malcolm: ... I despise Steve Fleming... almost as much as James May must despise himself...

Malcolm:  Sam!... no pissy biscuits...

Is it worth watching the first two series of The Thick of It? Or is the story continuous?

Also, would you recommend the West Wing?

If you havent seen the Wire, the 1st 2 series of the thick of it, or the west wing, take a week off work and watch at least 12 hours a day until you catch up. You have a perfect opportunity over christmas.

Never seen either. I do fancy The West Wing thoughh, but think the shows plot is linear so want to see them all from the start. I'm rubbish at catching onto shows, which is why I'm still on the Sopranos.

I'm probably going to get the West Wing box set for xmas - I think its about £45 which seems reasonable for so much TV! I'll get on to the rest when I can.

As for the week off work, I wish ;D

The end of The Think Of It!

NOOOOOOOO!

It's been breathless stuff again - writing that's at the very top of the game, and the acting just pin-point brilliant. Gonna have to make sure I get the DVD of it and watch it all again - start to finish. Peerless stuff.

Did anyone else think it was a little less tight than usual last night?

It seemed spread over a few weeks rather than your usual few hours. Still some classics though. Rebecca Front and Bernard from FWAAF ("harder than a sailor's wang on shore leave") was pretty intense - he keeps invading her space, she keeps backing off subtly, until he oversteps the mark with the "potty mouth" comment. Quality acting eh?

Roy, I think it was a result of the looming election. The show had to set itself up for whatever outcome (apart from a Lib Dem win) that we choose in the polls. Personally I can't think of a better reason to vote Labour than to keep Malcolm front stage.

I also think that Nicola is a fantastic foil for him. She's become one of the best female characters on TV and the little double act when he tempted her with the Foreign Office was superb.

So many great moments in that episode. I might just watch it again...

Cant wait for the next series!! Brilliant ending, loved Tom Hollander showing up as the fucker!! :D

I suspect there will be a couple of specials to coincide with the coming election. I like Iannucci's idea of exploring how government works during an election campaign. It will be fun to see how Tucker deals with the full on 24/7 media blitz of an election campaign. Oh and the Dan Miller situation, cant wait to see how that develops, I'm surprised they didnt have Tucker joining Miller and running the show there, but then that would of been a bit obvious, I daresay Jamie will show up again next series as well.

Can we get Tucker in to give halftime talks?
