Because Ali genuinely wasn't the greatest boxer of all time.
So we finish the eighteenth and he's gonna stiff me. And I say, "Hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know." And he says, "Oh, uh, there won't be any money, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness." So I got that goin' for me, which is nice.

No mate - you can reap the shit storm. You seriously contend that Tiger Woods is better than Ali was at his peak?

I bet you think he 's fitter than Ali was as well... I mean, strolling round a golf course with someone else carrying your bags is way, way harder than going up against George Foreman.

By the way, I'm not a boxing expert but I'm not even sure that Ali is the greatest boxer of all time - pound-for-pound I'm sure there are other contenders - but he was a better sportsman than Woods, fitter than Woods and more famous than Woods will ever be.

See my post - whether Ali was the best boxer of all time is irrelevant, he still pisses all over Woods as a sportsman.

Because Ali genuinely wasn't the greatest boxer of all time.

It's all a matter of opinion, I guess.

For me Ali transcended sport and helped to change a nation at a time when it needed changing, he said and did things that were very unpopular at the time, and did it with conviction, he had his faults, but was a man of principle and was unafraid to show it.  He didn't bow down to the money men or the politicians.  That to me is the definition of a sportsmen.

I don't just contend. I fundamentally believe he is the greatest.

He could be a fat bastard strolling around the golf course I agree. But the reason he has 14 majors is because he's in incredible shape aswell as his talent.

He might have been fitter than Woods for a certain number of weeks but I bet any money Woods keeps himself in better shape 12 months a year than Ali ever did. And more famous? That's highly questionable.

That is bollocks, and you know it.

The best sportsmen in the most popular sports earn most money. I think Woods is easily the top earner even without sponsor deals as well.

I'd bet there are fucking snooker players (o'sullivan?) close to his dominance who won't earn close to him, it's all relative, O'sullivan, Phil Taylor etc, all dominate their sports in a way Woods can only dream of, but won't earn a fraction of his money.

He's in incredible shape.  FOR A GOLFER.  He simply isn't as fit as the top performers in many other sports.

No matter which way you slice it, Golf is not a physically demanding sport in the way that football, rugby, athletics, cycling, swimming etc are.  Tiger Woods may well be at the optimum physical fitness level for Golf.  He may have redefined the way fitness is regarded in the game.  But he is not at the same fitness level as the top performers in many other sports.  He cannot possibly be, because to reach that level of fitness, he wouldn't have enough time left to practise swinging the clubs.  And no matter how much his fitness helps, the reason he wins golf tournaments is because of his technique, and his mental strength.

Nobody is close to his dominance. It's not just beat one guy then onto the next in golf, you're competing against 100+ guys at once. It's without a doubt the most difficult sport to dominate.

Yes, but on the flip side, you can have one utterly appalling day, and make it up in the next three.

You could say the same about any sport. Can someone have an appalling set in tennis? Can someone afford an appalling first half in football? It's all the same. The difference being in golf you're competing vs 100+ opponents at once.

Also, the top 10 in golf is always the same, they're competing against one another, fuck the other 100

If you look at the last few major winners that would completely nullify your point.

I've named two already who dominate their sport like Woods does golf, Phil Taylor and Ronnie O'Sullivan, win arguably a higher percentage of tourneys that Woods aswell. Especially Taylor

Yes, but on the flip side, you can have one utterly appalling day, and make it up in the next three.

Besides you keep doing what you do at your very best and chances are you'll do well in Golf.  I mean, its not like the other Golfers are trying to move your ball back 50 yards by hitting their ball on to yours.

I don't really know too much about Golf but to claim Tiger Woods is the most famous sportsman is again a ridiculous claim.  Most famous in the western world maybe but go to rural India or China and I guarantee you they'll never have heard of him.  Beckham, credit to him, I've seen kids in little villages in India wearing fake Beckham shirts while playing football.  And I use the example of India and China because together, they constitute close to 1/3rd of the total world population.
Quote from: Dion Fanning

The chants for Kenny Dalglish that were heard again on Wednesday do not necessarily mean that the fans see him as the saviour. This is not Newcastle, longing for the return of Kevin Keegan. Simply, Dalglish represents everything Hodgson is not and, in fairness, everything Hodgson could or would not hope to be.

Clearly you didn't see the recent tournament in China then.

Does he win every tournament he enters? no, does he win 90%? No, does Phil Taylor? yes. Is Golf a sport? no. Is darts? no. simples
Tiger Woods wins roughly 25% of the tournaments he enters which is mind boggling. He's competing with 140 or so players of similar ability. Christ, he's the overwhelming favourite of every tournament he enters. Federer wins Wimbledon, how many players does he have to beat?

Oh yeah, golf IS a sport my friend - get over it.
