It's very, very sad. A player I truly really loved at Liverpool.

Great player, and always displayed genuine loyalty on a level one rarely sees anymore. Real pity the injuries cut his career short.

Dagger

Always showed great passion on the pitch and was one of only a few players who knew what it meant to put that shirt on. I was gutted when he left a couple of years ago, felt we let him go far to early despite his injury problems, and now he's retired early because of those same problems. Such a same, wish him all the luck in the future and and sure he'll be a frequent visitor to Anfield.

Should've been in list of our finest defenders (which is quite some list), but injuries have robbed him of that not to mention our struggles since 2010.

Still remember that rocket against West Ham, out of nowhere and he had arrived as a Liverpool player. That said, he looked so comfortable in a back 3 on his first appearance not long after signing.

Best of luck with whatever you do next Daniel but you're always welcome at Anfield :wave

Born in 92 so one of the best defenders I've seen play for us along with Hyypia and Carra.

Legend. Enjoy your retirement, Danny. He's got many talents outside of football so he'll be fine!

Classy defender, even classier guy. YNWA Daniel.

I hope he'll be involved with Liverpool again someday. A true red who loves the club.
Absolutely. I hope we start getting ex-players more involved with the club. True Reds, not like that f-**g c*** Owen.

Happy retirement Danny!!

One of the most silkiest defenders on the ball I've seen. Head constantly up, looking for the right pass. He was wonderful to watch.

Good luck Danny!

But unlikely:

You never know though.  Lots of players think they'll never go into coaching only to find themselves drifting towards it in retirement as it's the closest thing to playing.

I couldn't ever see Agger as a Head Coach / Manager as he'd hate all the bullshit that goes with it, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him involved in coaching in some capacity.

I'd have loved him just for his oblique dig at Hodgson.

But good luck to him whatever he does next. Always going to be a warm welcome for him from Liverpool supporters.

That's quite young to retire, even for a football player.. injuries have fucked him over big time.

One of my favourite players for sure. Quality both on & off the pitch.

One of the most technically gifted defenders you'll ever see, and such an accomplished tackler and reader of the game. The sort of defender you never really noticed because he was always on the right place doing the sensible thing, holding everything together. A defender whose principal strength was his footballing brain, such a rare commodity specially these days.

A shame to hear this YNWA.

It might be a shame that he's retiring so young and never reached the heights he perhaps should have, but don't feel bad for him. He gets to retire at 31 with more money than most of us would make in five or six lifetimes, having played his last couple of seasons at his boyhood club, and with the respect of tens of millions of fans around the world (hundreds of millions if you believe some estimates). Not a bad life, I'd say.

One of my favourite players, and a ridiculously talented one too.  A pity that injuries took such a huge toll on him. I loved to see him drive the ball through middle with such class, and those goals against West Ham and Chelsea will live long in my memory.

YNWA Daniel, thanks for the memories
I’ve plenty links to the clubs playing and backroom staff as many on here know thank you very much. Fair enough, I admire your optimism. But you’re absolute ostriches if you think this squad, even with 2 or 3 new, “cut price” players with potential get us anywhere close
