Guess what? I just wrote to Steinski from a link on his blog, and he just wrote back!

He's sending some download links and he sounds like he's up for a chat once he's finished preparing for a gig. The Internet rules. :)

Heard it 43 min into a podcast mix at Texture DJs:

...by this guy:

I don't often get that Detroit feeling.  It reminded me of moodymann - freaky mf

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/S6T37AwXTuc&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" class="bbc_link bbc_flash_disabled new_win">http://www.youtube.com/v/S6T37AwXTuc&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1</a>

Oblio - Escape, from that mix above, is also worth a listen.  Nice sound, rather Boards of Canada, but more chilled than deep or freaky.   :D

Would "Your Silent Face" off New Order's "Power Corruption & Lies" count do you think? Probably one for the electronic thread, but it popped into my head this morning.

I'll try and dig out that Alex Paterson "Trance Europe Express - TEXtures" mix (it's off a double CD with another by Darren Emerson) and upload it somewhere cos it's phenomenal. Really downtempo for the most part obviously, but a real mind stretcher in places. At the end he's mixing samples from the Watergate hearings in with a Coldcut track - moody stuff. :)

Harry - really looking forward to getting stuck into that stuff this weekend!

I was remembering tracks from the good old days when I actually had a social life and went clubbing the other night and there are loads of house tracks I'd like to hear again. I heard a couple when I was digging stuff out earlier in the thread and when I heard them again they disappointed me - it was obviously the moment more than the actual tracks that stuck with me, you know?

One that popped into my head was "Everybody Needs To Be Somebody" and I know it was really mainstream Pete Tong stuff, but I can't remember the artist for the life of me...

Anyone remember Cafe Del Mar Vol 2? There were two tracks I loved off that - "The Act of Love (The Making of Jill)" and then I'm pretty sure it was the track after it. Will try and find them tonight.

Oh, and Pizzicato 5's "Porno 3000".

Give Em Enough Dope was a Wall of Sound sampler I think (maybe not though) and it was really 'phat' stuff that got quite latin towards the end - really enjoyable stuff. I'm thinking of Vol 3 I think. It was class - it had the Propellerhaads' "Take California" on it.

Here ya go! Amazon eh?

Just off that one Alex Paterson CD mate. I'll deffo get a copy to you if I've still got it somewhere. He's a genius - the samples he throws in are magic. There's one weak spot though - a track by Electribe 101 about "soiled panties in a can"... her voice does my head in.

Les Rhythmes Digitales - I can remember a good track by them used in a few ads, but can't remember the name.

I liked that "Underwater Love" by Smoke City - remembered it when Bill posted the music off another Levis ad.

Oh, and Pizzicato 5's "Porno 3000".
I first heard Kenny Dixon Jr (aka Moodymann) on an Essential Mix in 94 or 95 (while everyone else was out clubbing).  It took me about 10 years to find the right track, but especially the right mix.

Kenny Dixon Jr | Emotional Content (Terrence Parker Mix)| 1994 KDJ records
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/USbfqQaazFQ&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" class="bbc_link bbc_flash_disabled new_win">http://www.youtube.com/v/USbfqQaazFQ&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1</a>

I can't recall that line about "Everybody Needs To Be Somebody".  If it was slightly different, it might be the sample, a sort of shouty "Everybody ... Needs Somebody" over and over. Pop rave material.  It was a nice hook, not sure about the rest of the track.

Closest I've found was this A.R.T - Everybody Need Some Body, same sound on the vocal, could be from the same sample.

Tripped across this looking.  Top Garage material:
Ann Margret - Everybody Needs Somebody Sometimes (1981)

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/t9z2SgtZQGo&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" class="bbc_link bbc_flash_disabled new_win">http://www.youtube.com/v/t9z2SgtZQGo&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1</a>

And she was a fox too.
