Same here, I had to click the link to check, although given everything that we have seen so far it's not really that surprising. Trump is fast becoming a parody of himself. It really is the kind of name that a primary school kids would come up with.

"A Trump campaign aide who argues that Democrats committed “ethnic cleansing” in a plot to “liquidate” the white working class. A former reality show contestant whose study of societal collapse inspired him to invent a bow-and-arrow-cum-survivalist multi-tool. A pair of healthcare industry lobbyists. A lobbyist for defense contractors. An “evangelist” and lobbyist for Palantir, the Silicon Valley company with close ties to intelligence agencies. And a New Hampshire Trump supporter who has only recently graduated from high school.

These are some of the people the Trump administration has hired for positions across the federal government, according to documents received by ProPublica through public-records requests.

While President Trump has not moved to fill many jobs that require Senate confirmation, he has quietly installed hundreds of officials to serve as his eyes and ears at every major federal agency, from the Pentagon to the Department of Interior.

Unlike appointees exposed to the scrutiny of the Senate, members of these so-called “beachhead teams” have operated largely in the shadows, with the White House declining to publicly reveal their identities.

While some names have previously dribbled out in the press, we are publishing a list of more than 400 hires, providing the most complete accounting so far of who Trump has brought into the federal government.

The White House said in January that around 520 staffers were being hired for the beachhead teams.

The list we obtained includes obscure campaign staffers, contributors to Breitbart and others who have embraced conspiracy theories, as well as dozens of Washington insiders who could be reasonably characterized as part of the “swamp” Trump pledged to drain.

The list is striking for how many former lobbyists it contains: We found at least 36, spanning industries from health insurance and pharmaceuticals to construction, energy and finance. Many of them lobbied in the same areas that are regulated by the agencies they have now joined."

Yeah, they're finding out now it's far easier to oppose something than to create an alternative, with all the complexity and compromises that involves (who knew?) - same with extremist politicians everywhere.

They're now finding opposition with both the "moderates" who presumably are under pressure in marginal districts and the far-right nutters opposing any sort of government initiative. With all the Democrats also opposing, they'll have a hard time getting majority support.

Well I doubt the ultra conservatives will vote with the Democrats against this plan as it would mean leaving the ACA in place.

The sad fact is the Republicans wont have to go through anything like the political dancing Obama and the Democrats did to get the ACA out there.  There'll be far fewer compromises and those that happen will be pretty insubstantial imo.

The replacement doesn't really have to work, you see.  They just need a piece of paper that says "replacement", just as long as Obamacare is squashed.

Donald Trump invites foreign tourists to the White House, then bans them

Exclusive: British Embassy reveals it has been notified by State Department that tycoon's administration has halted all visits

Donald Trump’s chaotic start as US President is now impacting British tourists to Washington DC who hope to visit the White House.

The President and First Lady, Melania Trump, jointly announced the resumption of public tours at their new home. After an intense security screening process, visitors can take a 45-minute self-guided tour.

According to the official White House statement, visitors from the UK and elsewhere can apply for places, saying: “If you wish to visit the White House and are a citizen of a foreign country, please contact your embassy in Washington, DC for assistance in submitting a tour request.”

But the British Embassy in the US capital quickly repudiated the announcement, citing the State Department: “The White House website states that foreign nationals interested in touring the White House should contact their Embassy to arrange a tour.

“However, the Embassy has been advised by the US Department of State that this is on hold.

“We are therefore unable to process any applications at this time.”

I think the issue is that publicly they are saying you can visit the WH, but behind closed doors they are saying people can't. It's like with health care where the Republicans are stressing how they want to give access to everybody, but don't mention that they don't care whether poor people can afford it.

They don't care if it persists. They just want to oppose it. If it gets defeated they can be smug, obstructionist and idealistic like normal. As the old Chanel commercials used to say: "Live the fantasy".  And they can blame Democrats for Obamacare, a status quo that has been compromised and bastardised by Republicans anyway. They'd love to fight the mid-terms over Obamacare myths...on their terms.

E.P.A. Chief Doubts Consensus View of Climate Change

WASHINGTON — Scott Pruitt, the head of the Environmental Protection Agency, said on Thursday that carbon dioxide was not a primary contributor to global warming, a statement at odds with the global scientific consensus on climate change.

Speaking of carbon dioxide, the heat-trapping gas produced by burning fossil fuels, Mr. Pruitt told CNBC’s “Squawk Box” that “I think that measuring with precision human activity on the climate is something very challenging to do and there’s tremendous disagreement about the degree of impact, so no, I would not agree that it’s a primary contributor to the global warming that we see.”

If you say so.  Personally from their perspective they're cutting their nose off to spite their face to remain saddled with Obamacare.  But maybe they just realise that the replacement is cack handed, uncosted and unworkable, so it would be just pissing money away anyway.

And Trump wonders why he gets trolled so bad?  It's because he uses morons like this to troll us.

It's infuriating how so many people will ignore reams of facts on a certain issue but just accept what a balloon like this has to say, without a shred of evidence to back up his assertion, simply because he validates a pre-conceived notion.

Not only has Trump not read it, he wouldn't understand it if he did. As for Ryan's brainchild, more child and less brain. It's marvellous how so many Republicans hate it, but that's because they only hated Obamacare because of the guy whose name is in it. It was a basically Republican idea but it was his big policy initiative out of the gate, so that's the one they clung to, and told lies about, and now they have to come up with something better and they shit the bed.

Just another reminder that it's not just Trump.

The GOP is complicit.

David Frum has an article in the Atlantic I believe that discusses the other Kentucky senator Rand Paul and how the counties that gave him the most votes are the ones with the most people who will lose their insurance when Obamacare is scrapped. And that red states (Republican) will suffer the most.

Watch the senate. They may be the counter-balance to radicals in congress and a fascist President.ll. They need votes across a whole state to get elected, unlike congressmen with homogeneous districts. And they must win the popular vote, not an electoral college like Trump. They are vulnerable.

Already a republican senator from Arkansas has come out very critical of the new health care act.
