Yeah, plenty of CV songs when I saw them. I'd say nearly a third of what they played was off N.G.N.M.

Remember hearing infested as well.

Just asking around and it seems Stza is playing here this month but not sure where though yet.

Off to Birmingham punx picnic tonight, should really stay around all weekend to catch up with people/tout the distro but I'm pretty beat so we'll see what happens:

Friday - Poundaflesh, Septic Psychos, FUK, The Vile (I think) and others
Saturday - The Restarts + about 15 others
Sunday - English Dogs + about 7 others

Be a hefty weekend.

Thought for the day:

Punk rock was a scream of rage at the establishment (musical and otherwise).  It was a Year Zero moment.  Everyone was encouraged to rip it up and start again.  The point was to get out there and do your own thing, start afresh with new eyes and new ears.  Continuing to ape the musical mores of punk circa 1976-77 is actually the antithesis of punk.

Discuss.

If you get out there and do your own thing now....and it ends up sounding a bit like 70s punk, then there might be a certain inevitability to that given the rough, DIY nature of things implicit in 'doing your own thing'. Purely copying the sound though could well be described as the antithesis of punk. So sort of agree & disagree.

Punk for me was about attitude.  It was about doing what you wanted to do (and I don't mean in a 'Fuck you!' kind of way) without trying to fit into a specific genre/sound, without following a particular fashion; it was about exploration.  (Sorry, not a muso by any stretch of the imagination, so that's as good as it gets! :))

My experience of 'punk' today is fairly limited, but my 20 year old god daughter is an 'Irish punk' band, who are pretty good, put on a very entertaining gig,  but do tonnes of covers of 'Irish Punk'.  That and what I have seen/heard clicking on some of the links on here, it generally sounds like regurgitated stuff from times gone by, which by definition (my definition, obviously) means it's not punk.

I wouldn't say so because the punk genre has so much to it aside from the UK77 side, those bands are few and far between. It's branched into so many areas and evolved in such a way that new and exciting things emerge each year from within the punk scene, albeit very underground and I'm sure if you heard them you wouldn't recognise or associate them as 'punk' as you know/knew it. It never ceases to amaze me that many people I know that were involved in the early punk scene are still creating new bands with their own sounds and their own point of view. Music's truly amazing when you think it's based on so few notes, yet there's endless amounts you can do with it. :)

Invent a new genre and I'll give it a listen.

Punk (or however you or anyone else defines it today) is the prevailing musical medium in which I can hear the concerns/loves/hates/observations/aggression/humour, etc., etc., that reflect who I am, emoted back to me.

When I hear a new "scream of rage" that reflects the situation that I and my world view finds itself in, I'll sit up and listen. Justin Bieber just isn't ripping up the establishment enough for me I'm afraid.

I am claiming alt-skiffle / psych skiffle in my first review of Slow Club many years ago as my own genre.

If you want me to actually play the instruments then it would have to be one chord dronecore

Only just found this thread, Been into punk for years, everything from slapshot, minor threat, 7 seconds, dead kennedys, black flag, cockney rejects, sham 69, cock sparrer, the upstarts.

One of the first punk gigs I saw was mdm at wilsons, even played bass in a local dodgy crust core band for a bit too

One for the old farts that's been bugging me for years. In the early 80's Liverpool had a punk band who seemed to support every punk/new wave headliner visiting town (mostly at the Warehouse). Called 'Reiner/Weiner/Rener Chaos' or something. I remember them once stinking the place out on a bill that had the Dead Kennedy's and MDC (how ace is that). Wondering if I may have imagined them?

Fella's new band just recorded for their CD that is coming out, some 7" releases to follow. Here's the song that's fully mixed: http://www.reverbnation.com/play_now/song_9584337

Ex/current members of Discharge/Varukers/Disorder/Blood N Whiskey.

Any feedback would be great. I've been sat in on rehearsals/recordings for far too long to have a proper perspective. :)

yeah, those songs are pretty good although the bass/drum combo is way lacking in the mix to me.

Yeah, the mixing of them was fairly rushed because of a deadline. Any other tracks coming out will be much more laboured I'm sure.

Was going to go to Boston last weekend for the all dayer at the indian but I had a lazy day instead.

When Wakey left the English Dogs (original and now current singer) and new one joined and they took on a more metal sound. Wakey came back but that singer still used the English Dogs reputable name to advertise his metal band. So there's the dogs and then the metal ones doing the rounds.

The metal one is the one in US at the mo.

Recently stumbled across The Exploding Hearts, who released their first and only album in 2003.

Anybody into them?  Any other recommendations if that's a starting point?

Anyone else off to The Corporation in Sheffield on 17th December? Line up is mint, Buzzcocks, English Dogs, Sick on the bus, Drongos, Subhumans etc. Well looking forward to it, £30 a ticket though? Well steep.

:)

Wow, I used to LOVE The Subhumans back in the day. Gutted I missed this post last year as I may have nipped up to Sheffield.

Did you go? The Subhumans must have done 'Religious Wars'. Just skipped through my iPhone music and Religious Wars is on here.

Magnificent track. Just what's needed at 8am on a Friday.
