Discovered Car SOS the other week - I'd not seen it before. Done some nice restorations for people who aren't able to do their cars anymore. All pics are of the finished car.

Triumph GT6 (not a car I remember seeing as a kid) - sadly the owner passed away not long after it was finished

Just love the Quattro.

Just a great car. What was scary though was they also drove a new RS5 on the show, to see the modern version. 443 BHP ffs ;D

Hindsight is such a wonderful thing, but if I known then what I know now I'd have bought a Quattro, Capri 2.8i and a Mk1 Mexico rather than buy a couple of my big bikes.

Growing up I always had a thing for the Lotus Esprit.

There used to be some guy who would drive past the top of our road on his way home from work every night in a black and gold John Player Special edition S2 Esprit.

Another guy would often go into the old Hepburn's garage in Bridge Road Blundellsands in a gorgeous white Esprit Turbo.

Also, one night I was walking from the beach at Hall Road and came across a house on Richard Road that had a stunning silver Esprit parked on the drive. It was like looking at James Bond's place.  :)

Some cars leave a lasting impression on you as you grow up. It's always been the Esprit for me.

Another, is the Mini Cooper Sportspack. A mate used to have one and it was beautiful. Flared arches, leather interior, walnut dashboard etc.  8)

Just looking on Autotrader and they only have five, ranging from 20k - 70k.

There used to be a red one on the drive of a house in Maghull. It never ran and seemed to just sit there for a few years. What a waste.  :(

Here's one for the arl farts. Yesterday, I was out all day and saw my first 19 plate car (F Type Jag). When you were a kid in the 70s, on the 1st of August did you spend all day looking to see if you could spot a car on the new reg plate? It was always a competition between me and my brother. I still do it these days, even though it is twice a year now.

This Bentley belonged to a Lancaster bomber pilot who was involved on the raid on the Eagles Nest in April 1945. He was a friend of my sister in law and her fella. He sadly passed away in January aged 96. God knows what it will be worth once restored.

Rusty Bentley found in Stockport garage sells for £450k

The Bentley is "unusual" because it was assembled in the mid 1930s using parts which dated no later than 1931, H&H Classics said

A rusty 1936 Bentley which spent the last 30 years locked up in a garage has sold at auction for £454,250.

The car was owned by World War Two pilot Charles Blackham, who took part in a raid on Adolf Hitler's Bavarian retreat, and was one of just six of its kind made by Bentley.

H&H Classics sold the "unusual" car for more than double its estimate.

Mr Blackham, from Stockport, bought the car in 1952 for £260 and drove the classic convertible for 36 years.

It was then locked up in his garage for three decades and only rediscovered after the 96-year-old's death in January.

The car, which now has "torn leather seats" and is "covered in rust", is one of just six WO Bentley 4.5-litre cars assembled by the service department from stockpiled and reconditioned parts in 1936.

Damian Jones, head of sales at H&H Classics said the car - which was sold at the Imperial War Museum, Duxford, on Wednesday - was the "ultimate Bentley barn find".

"This Bentley is so unusual because it was assembled in the mid-1930s using a chassis and mechanical parts which dated from no later than 1931," he said.

"Only the body was freshly made when the car was assembled and sold as a new car in 1936."

Mr Blackham served in the RAF 550 Squadron and took part in the bombing raid of Hitler's famous mountain-top retreat in the Bavarian Alps in April 1945.

Haha I used to do that but was it August or September 1st? I thought September, reading your post made me feel about 12 again. Here in Belgium the plate stays with you when you change cars,so no idea how new a car is and they all look the same anyway nowadays.

It was deffo 1st August, I'm a bit of a nerd on that front. One of my bikes is an August 1992 and it is on a K plate, I owned the same model of bike in 1996 and it was a 1992 on a J.

You're right they all look like they were spewed out of the same computer these days, hard to tell them apart now.

I still love seeing and driving new stuff, when I was a driver I remember getting a new transit drop side with 300 delivery miles on it, I loved that van. In 1995 I got a hire car when my bike was knocked over, M reg Astra, 9 miles on it - it had 5,000 when I gave it back ;D

In 2011 I got to drive a Scania artic, delivery miles only, I was the first one to drive it, proper straight out if the factory smell.

I really do want an old timer,i cant be arsed with this euro 3,4,5 and 6 stuff. The problem is im not flush with money and could spend around 5 grand on one. No idea what you could get for that money besides a rust Bucket costing loads to maintain.

Love Car SOS. Saw one a couple of years ago and watched them all now I think. The mechanic Buzz is a lovely fella and even the main presenter Tim grows on you after a while. First few I thought, bit of a tit, then gradually began to find his attempts to get stuff for free funnier and funnier. He’s alright really.

The missus takes the piss as I’m usually welling up at the moment of handover, seeing the owners getting choked. They’ve done some absolutely incredible restorations.

Don’t mind Wheeler Dealers as well. Getting a bit obsessed with classic cars.

Depends on what you want. Mk3 Cortinas are in your budget, sadly Capris, Escorts, Minis etc are mentally priced now. Datsun 240Zs are daft money too

There is nice looking a 1975 P MGB convertible on AutoTrader at a dealer, 100k for £4990.

Mike Brewer always put me off Wheeler Dealers - I watched it to see Ed, he started off really raw and did some stuff where you went WTF is he doing? but he got better. Brewer always came across as a cock - funny watching old episodes where they moved on cars for a tiny profit/mostly loss and they are now selling for 5 times what he sold them for ;D

Yeah, I’ve often though, ‘not sure I’d sell that one!’

That Mike fella is a bit of a berk, what’s with the ridiculous exaggerated handshakes?! But it’s worth watching for Ed’s mechanical stuff (even though I’ve never worked on a car in me life!)

Early 90's, I had a 1955 oval window VW Beetle, it was rare as fuck even back then, it was in good nick too, totally original and solid. Sold it for £2,000, they go for around £25k now. Hindsight hey.   :butt

Get yourself looking at South Africa, Top Gear spilled the beans, there are loads of Mk1 and Mk2 Escorts for anything from £1k to not a lot more. All right hand drive too, so a decent one could be sourced and shipped within your budget.

The talk in the bitters thread got me thinking about Minis. I never owned one, but I did drive my Dads one when I was 8.

I was buying one of these as a winter car in 1996, until I got quoted 3 times more than the car was worth to insure it and double what I was paying for a £6500 180mph Kawasaki ZZR1100

I do like the look of the Cooper too when they put the stripes, spots and minilight wheels

The Mini my mate had was like the black one in your post, although his was a sort of orangey red colour and had the tin top rather than the Webasto sunroof.
The Rover Mini Cooper Sportspack edition with 13'' minilite wheels, flared arches, bonnet stripes, spot lamps, full leather interior with walnut dashboard and white dials. It was a beauty and went like a rocket for its size.

I've currently got my eye on a BMW Cooper, but it has to be no later than a 55 or 56 Reg because I don't like the shape of the ones after that as they tweaked the body and it wasn't so aesthetically pleasing. Unfortunately, each new incarnation gets increasingly uglier.  :-\

Agree with you, the early BMW Minis are the better looking of the "new" mini. If I was looking for a Mini, I'd be after the MC40

Ahh, the Monte Carlo. Lovely!  8)

My nephew had a lovely BMW Cooper S in metallic black. Sadly, it was destroyed in a monster hailstorm in the US.  :-\

It was one of the first editions of the BMW MINI so had that gorgeous body shape that the later ones lack. No match for hailstones like golf balls though.

Those old Mini's are great Rob. The first one is a Mini Clubman isn't, distinguished by the front end.

My mum, sister and my cousin all had Mini's and I was constantly replacing radial arm bushes for the MoTs. Pain in the arse.

It is a Clubman yes, the 1275GT. The one I was going to buy was a mate of our kids car, he offered me it for something daft like £150 and they wanted around £500 to insure it TPFT. I was 29, had 10 yrs NCB on bikes but hadn't had a car since I was 22 as I used the bike to go everywhere or hired a car if I needed to go to our kids in Bournemouth, so I knocked the idea on the head. It was a cracking little car as well.

What a horrible way for a car to die.

The first generations at least looked like a Mini and are a nice looking car, the later ones are not so nice and then you get those Countryman abominations which should be burnt

Can't be doing with the newer generation, but love the original.
They are only great because we are on our knees......let us arise!
