Stu Brennan from the MEN has posted his joint City/Liverpool team. Oh lordy.

Alisson

Walker - Van Dijk - Laporte- Robertson

Gundogan - Thiago - De Bruyne

Salah - Aguero - Sterling

Wow. Just wow. Walker over Trent, Gundogan!?!? over Henderon or Fabinho.
Sterling over Sadio is more reasonable but is it "snowing" in the MEN offices or something?

I suppose the MEN is just an accurate reflection of how deluded their readership is.

I wouldn’t give it the time of day. The only way to come up with that team is if you  deliberately set out to include more players from Man City than Liverpool. It’s plainly ridiculous.

If I was a journalist whose job it was to write about the most successful Premier League club of the past decade*, I'd find it slightly depressing that the only way to get anyone to take any interest in what I've written was by shoe-horning in a completely different club at every opportunity.

To be fair they’ve only spent around £1.5B on players. They clearly need to spend a lot more.

Since arriving at City, Pep has spent more on defence than the defence budgets of 86 sovereign nations.

On the one hand I think it is understandable to complain about how many games the players are being asked to play this year due to Covid.  On the other I just don't want to hear any complaints about thin squad or similar when it comes to ManC, it's just a joke.  Just because you fucked up your squad building while spending £1bn doesn't mean you get to cry about it.  Are they now not favored to beat Leicester or almost any other team in the PL when it's a lineup of Sterling, KdB, Foden and Mahrez as attackers?  Give me a break.

He's edging into Mourinho-esque territory now.

The cracks were showing last season, and his arrogant 'Us against the world' mentality has only increased since the CAS/FFP verdict.

I think he'll leave if he can't close the gap this season, as he clearly struggles to tolerate imperfection and will blame everyone but himself. He'll need to build another team if he extends his contract, which he hasn't done anywhere else.

It would certainly be interesting to see him at another club - one where he hasn't inherited the best squad in history as he did at Barca, or isn't managing in a one-team league in Germany, or isn't spending £1billion in 5 years at a corrupt oil club.
I've got OCD, but I prefer to call it CDO so it's in alphabetical order.

According to the PhysioRoom injury list City have 7 senior players out.
2 of those out are in isolation with Covid & the other I would probably be right in saying Aguero was rushed back true Pep style before he was ready..
We have 5 senior players out.
Newcastle 8 players out..Burnley 7 players out..

Is there anything Pep won’t complain about?
Almost £1.5B spent on the squad and they can’t cope with a few injuries? They don’t have any more injuries than a lot of other clubs have.
Pep is getting so tedious now , worse than Mourinho in my opinion.

He is a good young (23) ball-playing central defender. Even though he is pretty tall (6'2"), I am not sure that his transition to the PL will be easy. No doubt a step down from Koulibaly, who would have been a perfect fit for what they need at the moment.

To be fair, transfermarkt are always a little odd on valuation - Jota is worth £25m according to them, so 60% overpayment (identical to Dias') - yet Havertz was the same as the 72m that Chelsea paid?

If you look at those who are out, they can still select 10 out of the 11 that started their previous league game and can readily bring in £60m of Mahrez into the starting lineup, so just usual Guardiola whinging as he's noticed the transfer window is still open and he has time to pry more money out of his paymasters.

Transfermarkt being a German website may explain that  ;D

But yeah, they are all over the place with evaluations, it’s a great website, but the player valuation part of it is just very subjective and maybe more accurate for certain teams or leagues.
