He was on the pitch at the end. He looked a bit forlorn. Someone, possible Hendo, went to grab him for a photo but he looked pretty sad to me.
Really feel for Joe. I’m sure he and Curtis will be first names on the team sheet against Norwich along with some of those on the bench or didn’t play the full game yesterday.

I thought some of Tuchel's touchline dramatics were hilarious. Getting on his knees and giving the Wembley turf a good spanking was funny, but him running off to celebrate a goal and then having to suddenly cut it short was a classic - like he was trying to pretend to 90,000 people that nothing happended.

Nope, didn’t want to catch that bus anyway.

still absolutely buzzing, I know its only league cup but there really is nothing like winning stuff

Winning trophies is very addictive, it makes the players keen to do it again & again. Now if you're an Everton player though......... :(

At one point, I think it may have been Lukaku's disallowed goal when he ran off in front of our bench and you can momentarily see Peter Krawietz shushing him away back to his dugout as you'd do a housefly!

He's been ever so unlucky last and this season, for different reasons. Last season he'd have been ever-present with Virgs injury. And now he's fit again you'd almost put money on Joel breaking down at some point before now, and here we are! And additionally we've (rightly) added another quality young CB who has really grabbed his chances when he's played. Being a 4th choice CB and none of the others getting injured is pretty thankless but I still think he'll have a big part this season.
If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.

If I was Ref, a keeper who is not on the line when the penalty taker is ready gets a yellow card. It's not the keeper who decides when a penalty is taken, it's me (the ref) and the taker who decide.

I was really impressed with our lads not getting caught into all the mindgames of that keeper. I shat my pants on every shot we had to take, and I was 1000 miles away. How they could keep so cool... propably well prepared by our coaching staff, also psychological.
Also, I agree that the camera perspective makes it look much more difficult for the striker. The goal seems so much smaller, and the keeper so much bigger, this is really making rhe whole shootout a more intense experience. That's from a German who is supposed not to fear penalties...

I had to go Club Wembley to watch it - apart from not having my scarf and all that (what utter bollocks that was) the atmosphere around me was superb and well worth it.

Stayed until they'd all done their interviews and soaked it in. What I loved was TAA waiting until Linda and JH has had their pictures with the trophy then taking it over to have a picture taken with his family that were there. Also afterwards watching him and Robbo sat away from everyone just looking into the crown and chatting. Such a group of men we have here. They loved every minute of it.

As for the game... it was not a boring 0-0 was it?!?! Can't believe that we never finished that off in normal time. We all called that Kepa would fuck up in some way and so it rang true. What an utter bellend trying those mind games with our lot. Felt the best peno of them all was Stan's as it showed the arrogant twat the utter comtempt he deserved. Awesome.

I've seen some comments in here about Jo-el's goal and yet I cannot recall any referee being asked to go to a screen for an offside decision ever? What the absolute FUCK was all that about? And I watched it on the train on the way back and I still cannot see where Virg is offside? He's nowhere near play and had absolutely nothing to do with the runup. Abysmal. I said at the time that the ref and the VAR lot had a bet on for it being 0-0 after normal time so no way was that going to be given.

Word for Lukaku here: Carthorse. My god, he's awful. Makes Benteke look like Pele. Anyway, Luis Diaz. We have one helluva player here. The man is indestructable and utterly relentless. What a buy.

Still buzzing even now. Was with my eldest lad and said to him walking to Wembley Park station that this was what it's all about. Anfield South is Red again and let's have many more.

Norwich Wednesday - let's see the momentum continue. Still plenty to improve on (second balls, sloppy passing) but overall, we're looking pretty good all said and done.

Was the Matip sub tactical and any news on Thiago?

Thiago had a hamstring injury in the warm up, but the seriousness hasn't been said yet.

Matip there was no news, I'm guessing tactical/prevent him playing too much as he's played a lot recently for someone that can pick up injuries.

Sky seemed determined Diaz had a hamstring injury too, he fell funny at one point and Neville said it straight away, but it looked more impact as he hit the ground that was causing him trouble. Didn't go off straight away either, so not sure where they got that from.
We already have shit in the country, and the game of Liverpool fills life with joy. Thanks

Think Matip had just played a lot recently and also maybe Konate to deal with Lukaku’s strength/Werner’s pace. Thought he did well.

Diaz I think was just knackered. He did so much running, at a full pace too. He was our main outlet all game and once he went off we definitely looked less threatening.

That was a great game and as far away from a sterile boring 0-0 as possible.
Putting aside ownership for a sec, Chelsea as a football team are a good side. Not as good as us, but they are stacked with good players all over the pitch and it's always extra satisfying to win a final against a good side.

But when you factor in the wider scenario around the game, it was essential that we came out on top. It would have been too much to see a club funded by bent Russian money beat a club that has done things the right way, especially given the timing.

Following last years shitshow, it was a great opportunity for us to get back in the trophy winning saddle and I think it will stand us in good stead for the rest of the season as well as giving the newer players a taste of what its all about.

The funniest though was that gobshite Kepa. Not content with the show he made of himself last time, he tops it by trying to put our lads off, fails to save any pens, then blasts his over. While an unassuming Irish lad has a great game and scores the winning pen.

And for some inexplicable reason, I had a few £ on us to win after pens. Which was nice.

Think we took Diaz off to protect him- we weren't sure if he'd injured himself in the goal line stumble, and he doesn't seem to be the type that would let a niggle stop him. We do need him to stay fit though, and with Origi on the bench, it made sense to take him off.

Matip probably a mixture of protecting him and tactical to bring Konate on against Lukaku.

Kepa should have been yellow carded the first time he didn't go to the goal line. Ref had to tell him every single time. Ridiculous. Loved the irony of him trying all the mind games and him blasting it way over the bar.  ;D Refused a sub, end up losing the penalties. Gets the sub, wanks it over the bar.  ;D

Of course they should have scored a couple, but so should we have. Mane missed open goal, for instance.
2-2 or 3-3 would have described the game better, but in no way did we deserve to lose.

We had the better chances.

I hate the narrative that surrounds Liverpool, a lot of it out of plain refusal to give the club, the manager and team it’s dues, that they get outplayed, or outcoached, or don’t deserve results or whatever.

Yesterday was a great example, heck even one or two here doing it.  Stats don’t tell the whole story, but they give a good insight, and the ones from yesterday really did give a good insight.

Mendy was Chelsea’s man of the match, easily.  Not just the great save from Mane, but the save that preceded that from Keita, the save from Diaz, the one from Virgil’s header, then the other very good double save later - first one from Diaz again, can’t remember who the follow up shot was from.

Kelleher for us was also excellent of course, making 2 really good saves in particular, but unlike Mendy, didn’t have to be the absolute standout to keep the team in the game.

Another one in the trophy cabinet.  I thought it was a really good performance that was only thwarted by some excellent goalkeeping and last ditch defending by Chelsea.  To handle our front three Chelsea pretty much deployed a flat back five for most of the game with Alonso and James/Azpilicueta barely crossing the halfway line.  That left them short in midfield and our three bossed that area for most of the game.

I'm grateful that Pulisic and Mount spurned those three good chances for Chelsea but not hugely surprising as both are really 5-10 goals a season players.  I'm sure as I flicked through my Twitter feed somebody had posted that we had the higher xG to go with our other dominant statistics (more possession, nearly double the attempts on goal, 11 corners to their 2 etc.).

It's been a long-time coming but karma has well and truly caught up with Kepa.  His refusal to be subbed for the penalties by Sarri was grim so to watch him be so utterly useless yesterday was nice for more reasons that the main one of us getting the victory.  Fab's little dink and then van Dijk blasting the ball through him were both fantastic.  As I watched live I sort of wanted Kelleher to try to ruffle their players with the same approach that Kepa tried but it's doubly sweet for him to be the hero without any of that nonsense.

I think Kelleher tried to psyche one or two of their players out by doing absolutely nothing. Think it might have been for James he was just stood dead still and they seemed to be having a big stare off. Think he only moved after he’d started his run up.

This is it - they've done the training with the neuroscience company and Klopp mentioned it post-match. It was amazing how still he was - like a cat at a mousehole, haha!

Noticed that. He was like a statue.
Reece James giving it the big un.
Shushing the crowd, as for Kepa, what a dick. Ref should have booked him but was spineless as usual.
Said to the wife when it went to the last two pennos, it’s all set for Kepa to miss. I remember saying the same sort of thing when Southgate tried that in the summer, “sadly these substitutions will bite him on the arse” was the phrase.

The post-match pics made him look like a cat that's got all the milk cups.

Could so easily have been an unfortunate typo...

2 pens stood out for me.  Fab's with all the gamesmanship Kepa was trying. And Virg the same - Kepa was standing way to his right and Virg still blasted it into the left corner almost through the idiot!
Look up "Odious" in the dictionary and Martin Samuel is the given definition.  Call me Klopphooey please.
