Unfortunately Kevin besides being a tricky forward got up to too many tricks away from football and served time at Her Majesty's Pleasure for fraud. His current whereabouts are unknown.

I believe businessmen will always put 'doing a good job' miles before supporting a football team. You dont get to the top of your game allowing things like supporting a club to get in your way.

You know the moral of this story don't you, if you need to get a job done, get a chelsea fan  :jester

With today´s ruling, Broughton can´t be seen as anything else than one of the most important figures in our history. Who knows where we´d be if it wasn´t for him?

I am deeply deeply grateful for all he´s done for our club.

Should he stay? Probably not, but I wouldn´t be disappointed if he did.

Fucking well done Martin.

That is it in one.

Yes he's done what he came in to do, but he's done it brilliantly.

He's done a good job and I'm very happy that even though the Americans appointed him, he was fighting in the corner of the fans. Still not too happy about Rafa's sacking... but I will be eternally grateful for what he's done in getting the Americans out.

He'll always be welcome at Anfield, imo. If he wants to stay in some capacity, I would not be opposed to it. He's operated like a true professional and I'd like to see what he could do if he was in the mindset to provide success to a football club, rather than scouring the world for new owners. But I do think that Purslow & Ayres (especially Ayres) should stay.

He got the job done with the dignity and respect we have been missing for a long time at this club.

Sure he got paid a pretty penny to get it done but massive respect to him.

Yeah, I wouldn't go as far as to say we should be making banners and other things. We need to see how this all turns out, but my point still stands that he's a very very impressive individual and has acted very professionally throughout the whole sale process.
I trust the King, but if we lose a few more on the trot now - he may have to step aside, and we have to purchase another manager in the middle of the season. If we are relegated, this could be the end of our ambitions to win any title the next 100 years.

I think Broughton seems to be getting a lot of credit for work done by RBS. He was brought here to sell the club. He still hasn't done that.

Hicks didn't employ him. Broughton and Purslow were both RBS initiated appointments. It's worth considering the tremendous long game that the Bank has played in both getting their money back and delivering our Club to - what appear to be - responsible owners. It's no mean feat.

Not bad for a chelsea fan, would be worth trying to keep him. Theres no doubt he and purslow have takena tremendous amount of stick...especially from me, but we can see now with whats gone on the amount of good work that has gone on behind the scenes.

See this is something that has really bothered me these last months.
All we hear is Liverpool fans saying "we do things beihind closed doors" and we do it "The Liverpool way" and all that.

The guy had balls to do what he did.  All three of them did.  Standing up to H&G like that was a massive decision and they didn't shy away from it at all.

I'd like him to stay on in some capacity if only for a short time to over see this season and make sure that the new owners are as good as their word.  We have been fooled before.

This guy has done a stunning job. The way he has manipulated the board, got the brief to sell the club and done so with or without the Yanks' approval has been an amazing coup.

In particular I admire the way that he has closed the deal with NESV at exactly the right moment so RBS can hopefully avoid administration and transfer LFC to NESV whilst limiting the options for the Yanks is a masterstroke.

Seriously, we should open the 'Martin Broughton Stand' in his honour. This man will prove to be every bit as important as Bill Shankly imo.

He is a very classy gentleman.

The ruthless, aggressive, take-no-bullshit way he dealt with Hicks in the last week was a pleasure to watch, and showed he isn't just a gentleman, he has the instincts of a scrapper too.

That is what a leader looks like.

A very professional job done by a very professional person.  He said from the start, that the sale would not be conducted in the public eyes.  But with the way the world is now a days, with forums and social networking it is very easy to spread stories!! But the whole board stuck to their guns, and done what they set out to do!!

 Thank you!!!! ;D

Apologies for this being a pretty irrelevant question in light of today’s massive news but it’s driving me mad!...What’s the lookalike people have for Broughton – not Ian Mackellan/Magneto, I’m sure there was another one as well and I can’t place it?

I really think with each passing day it will become more apparent just how close we were in the mouth of oblivion, totally by the skin of our teeth this, and it may well be too late for the Mancs.

The thing is, whatever happens with the new owners, there's no doubt about the amazing job it took to wrench these 2 out.

Anyone else notice that Broughton has been refering to the club as 'us' and 'we'?

Also, worth remembering while there was questions over who hired Puslow and Broughton (none in my mind, I always thought they were RBS appointments), Ayers was appointed by Hicks and deserves special praise for putting the club ahead of any loyalty he might have had with Hicks for giving him a job.
Thinking is overrated.

Finished what Rafa started, those two should be held in the highest esteem.
Believe me, but for Rafa and Broughton having the steel balls necessary to stand up to the cancers, our club would be staring into the abyss come friday.

What they have done, ably helped by Purslow and Ayre is to give us our club back.
No amount of thanks, from us fans can ever be enough for that.
I'm not saying we should erect statues next to shanks, but, if it weren't for Rafa seeing what was going on, and Martin being able to stand up to them, and having the nous to cover all bases whilst ousting them, that statue could well have been on ebay next week.
Also, I think, on reflection, Roy was appointed as a yes man, he's probably been better at the current job than Rafa, Broughton probably realised that having a manager that was too hands on, and not shy of speaking his mind would have possibly hindered his attempts to do what he has.

Unfortunately though for Roy, you need to follow Hicks and Gillett out of the door. You played your part, now it's time for us to appoint a real manager.
New adventures ahead for us now comrades, the golden sky has shown itself, the phoenix has risen.

Time to move on.

13mins - Bournemouth have gone home. Utd kicked off anyway. Still 0-0 as Smalling passes it back to De Gea.
