Wearing a dress to Anfield on match day
« on: September 9, 2023, 02:33:19 am »
Hi there fellow Kopites,

I will be attending my first ever home match at Anfield for the upcoming West ham game on the 24th September.
My girlfriend managed to get us hospitality tickets as a birthday present for me (I am so lucky!).

Anyway in a bizarre turn of events. She suggested that we switch attire for the day in that she will wear my men's home shirt and I wear her Liverpool FC red polo dress to make the day more interesting 😂

I am just wondering if this would be ok to do and would I get refused entry into the stadium due to the "dress code"?
Has anyone done this before?
Any help and advice would be most appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I am going to be sat in row 3.
I'm still not sure if I am do it yet as I am worried about
A) if I will get turned away
B) what sort of reception I will get

It's my first time at Anfield so it's going to be a little overwhelming and we are booked in for the stadium tour before the match.

Knowing the Anfield crowd you might get a few funny looks but overall it'll be seen for what it is, a fun way to mark the day so you'll most likely get resounding applause from an appreciative fanbase 👍

So your first ever visit to Anfield isn’t going to be interesting enough for you , without you having to wear a dress to it, you may as well go the whole fuckin hog & get a half and half scarf to complete the ensemble

To be fair if he just said I want to come in a dress no one would give a fuck. But to think the day has to be spruced up like its the NFL is a bit stupid. Might as well do the half and half's and come in with a bumper hand and wave giant yellow cards at the ref.

Well I believe this is once in a lifetime experience for me as I have tried and been unsuccessful in past ballots :( and I ain't ever going to get a season ticket so we might as well make the most of it and enjoy it too the max, but I will take a win first and foremost. 😀
Oh and without the props and half and half's 😜

I agree with Barney, post was a overly aggressive.

As for making it more interesting, I bet the poster wouldn't go in the Arkles and complain everyone is drinking and suggest they get a 50/50 scarf

It's fine to be honest, I mean I can understand and respect everyone has their own views.
Going to Anfield regardless of what I will be in will be the greatest experience for me as it's a dream come true!
As I said as long as we win, it don't matter what I am wearing I will be extremely happy! 😁

I definitely won't be going into the Arkles and doing that but I will be going to get a Shankly pie.

I've never seen so many badly dressed people than at a football match, so you'll be fine.
I probably wouldn't advise it to an away game.

Seriously, you’ll look like a fucking idiot. The majority may be polite, but frankly will all be muttering under their breath that you’d be better suited to being at the circus. Just go the match and enjoy it, rather than making an attention seeking scene by acting like the wooliest of wools.

You won't get turned away. In this day and age, cross-dressing is (officially) fine.

However, I also agree that you'll look like an idiot as it's not what people do when they go the match. It's not a party or a stag do. If you were normally wearing dresses, that'd be fine, but doing it to spruce up your day just seems odd. I mean, people used to go in Sunday suit and tie in years past. These days, its all about dressing up but not looking dressed up, lol. And lots will say that only wools wear Liverpool shirts to the match.
