And in Roy's eyes, that puts them on a par in the legacy of great managers.

I feel like any team he coaches will always be a midtable level no matter how good or bad it is.

Give him a shitty side and he will put them in midtable, overachieving yet playing anarchic football. Give Brazil in 1982 and he will drop them to midtable mediocrity. Allardyce has also this same quality.
