Was it not "Remembrance of Things Past"?

Sure it would either be "Hodgson's Fables" or "The Complete Works of Roy Hodgson - Translating Football from Obscurity to the Palace"

The Curious Incident of the Hodge in the Nighttime. A story about the Liverpool manager - who was feted as one of England's best managers - standing on the touchline looking clueless as his team were losing to Wolves at Anfield on a cold Wednesday night.
We have to change from doubter to believer. Now.

I’m shocked at some of the less than supportive messages in here for one of the great British managers, the Morgan Freeman of our game, a man so dignified and tactically astute that he has held some of the top roles in the world game including at Blackburn, Ingerland FC, Fulham and even some other countries in Europe. Much like the great Alan Turing, Roy is simply a man out of time, a visionary and genius whose thinking is so far ahead of other footballing people that the people mistakenly think he is actually behind the times. People are not smart enough to see reality. I for one hope he finally gets the respect he deserves and lands one more role befitting his gravitas, preferably in Manchester, before he retires. I’m not being tricky, this is just how I feel about it.

The underlined bit didn't get the attention it deserved!

Why do football writers make these ridiculous assertions? Even if Hodgson was twice the manager he is (which is half the manager he thinks he is) stuff like this is just asking for trouble:

Hodgson's Liverpool will get back on the front foot. They will assert their pedigree.

Liverpool will advance with pace and ingenuity but defend resolutely.

a sage who understands every nuance of the English game and will perform expert surgery on a bloated squad.

Hindsight is 20/20 but why make such stupid declarations?

Theyre an absolute shambles at the moment as the Italian clubs circle, its going to take years to right the mess theyre currently in, Sanchez wages along with Lukakus being paid, Sanchez no deal in place for a sale, hes on crazy money, true mess, Ole doesn't have the expertise to get the ship righted. It is a suggestion, I think, to put Hodgson as manager of Man Utd. You know they need him.

Thing about Hodge is he'll suck up to Ferguson, but he'll also park in his space

Absolutely disgusting, I knew he idolised Ferguson but that’s going beyond personal boundaries.

Spurs away next with the possibility of Pochettino being under massive pressure, he's on the verge of 3 wins in a row and it's an international break, his arse will be hanging out by the time they play them

It's incredible he gets away with lowering expectations like this.

2 season ago, Palace finished 11 points above the relegations places, and 10 points from European qualification.
Last season, it was 15 points from relegation, 8 points from Europe.
Both seasons, they've been 3 points behind Leicester.
Yet while they're talking up the idea of Leicester breaking the Top 6, Hodgson gets away with making out that Palace are hanging on in the PL by the skin of their teeth.

To be fair I think the Owl has done a fine job with Palace, could they realistically expect more than midtable comfort and the odd epic result? He knows how to set up a decent low-block and counter-attack, that style of football will keep you in this league and enable you to frustrate the big boys.

However, that performance against Spurs suggested he got a little too big for his boots, expecting his side to press high against a side of the quality of Tottenham without the right personnel or tactical training was asking for a belting. That was a footballing lesson that will have likely reinforced Hodgson's wisdom in maintaining the status quo in which they have been in borderline Europa League qualification form for the past 6 months.

I've got a feeling the owl is gonna take Palace down this season.

And just like he did when his mighty England team was humbled by Iceland, he'll slink off into obscurity whilst blaming others for his downfall in one of his angry press interviews.

Obviously this won't go down well here, but I don't mind Hodgson that much really. I found it hard to hate him even while he was our manager, he was there for such a short period that it couldn't possibly leave any lasting scars. I prefer to look on that season with fondness, as we got rid of H&G and then saw the return of Kenny.

The main thing about Hodgson though is that he's one of the few high profile managers remaining that used to manage in the 90s. It's a sort of comfort to me as I enter middle age, that Hodgson is still pottering about trying to stifle opponents and his own players. Until he retires I can still hark back to USA 94 or Football Italia, knowing that life isn't completely unrecognizable yet.

'Roy's place in Crystal Palace history was secured in 2018 when they became the first team to stay up after losing their first seven Premier League games.'

He's been a manager for about 100 years now and that's the best achievement they could come up with for him.  :lmao
