England women lost last night, which has left the series at 2-1. Been a fairly good watch for the bits I have caught.
We already have shit in the country, and the game of Liverpool fills life with joy. Thanks

Perth might not be able to hold the 5th Ashes test due to state to state quarantine restrictions in Australia. It really is time they postponed it a year

Always one of my favourite players for some reason I can't put my finger on. I could say he was jerked around a bit too much by moving in the batting order but I always roll my eyes when people say that about Bairstow.

Going to a Tailenders live show tomorrow. After the OT test got cancelled, at least I'll get to see Jimmy live this year after all....

They had a meeting on Sunday to decide what is happening with the Ashes tour.

Looks like they have given themselves this week to try put together a team willing to go and spend November-January in a hotel room alone to play, and if it's going to be a team worthy of the Ashes tour.

Jimmy is already a yes.... Most of the T20 team might not be so willing.

Anderson, Broad, a couple of other non-T20 bowlers, with the rest drawn from lot from the county scene. Can't do much worse with the bat than our specially selected batters.

Players with contracts that aren't in the white ball team:

Burns
Hameed
Pope
Crawley
Sibley
Stone
Overton
Anderson
Bess
Broad
Leach

But I suppose it's whether they would want to travel and be in the isolated environment for that long.

Headline on the BBC

“England’s Curran misses IT20 World Cup through injury and is replaced by brother.”

Some first names might have been handy there chaps, seeing as both are called Curran and both are “England’s”.

Turns out it’s Sam Curran who is injured and Tom Curran is now going.  It might have been a bit more obvious to some more than others I suppose.

If that was the team we might as well not bother but we will buckle and go we always do.

Didn't even realise that was a "team". Root is in there too, forgot him on the original list.

Even then, they'd need to find some more from county games as extras on the tour. It's not enough at all, so should be postponed.

It shouldnt be played really it is a series to build up and we are still unsure with the first test two months away.

I think we will go but hope we dont

Ashes squad named (do we need a new thread when it starts)?

https://www.ecb.co.uk/news/2286138

It’s apparently as strong as can be so no omissions (Stokes was already unavailable).

No Sibley (yay?), Buttler is named vice captain (yay?!)...

England Men's Test Squad - Ashes Tour of Australia 2021-22

Joe Root (Yorkshire) Captain
James Anderson (Lancashire)
Jonathan Bairstow (Yorkshire)
Dom Bess (Yorkshire)
Stuart Broad (Nottinghamshire)
Rory Burns (Surrey)
Jos Buttler (Lancashire)
Zak Crawley (Kent)
Haseeb Hameed (Nottinghamshire)
Dan Lawrence (Essex)
Jack Leach (Somerset)
Dawid Malan (Yorkshire)
Craig Overton (Somerset)
Ollie Pope (Surrey)
Ollie Robinson (Sussex)
Chris Woakes (Warwickshire)
Mark Wood (Durham)

5-0 Aussies.

I’ve not saying that they’ve picked the wrong squad or anything.  Any combination of any set of players would lose 5-0.

Nothing like the threat needed to take 100 wickets in that bowling lineup. Wood is the only one who can perform chin music and we'll have him for probably 1 test. Going to be a seeing to.

As ever, our best bowling attack looks strong for English conditions and potentially one paced in Australia. Leech the only spinner so is he now first choice and back in favour due to Moeen’s retirement or will we lose faith and play all seamers and rely on Root ( hope not!).

Robinson looked good this summer and maybe has the height and length to be awkward in Australia but we’ll have to wait and see. Is Adelaide a day nighter again? I guess we hope Jimmy and Woakes come good there.

Do any of the younger batters look like they would do well in Aussie conditions?

Didnt even spot that! Given our lack of all rounder with Stokes out he may yet end up playing. Unless we think we can field Leech, Broad, Jimmy, Wood without getting the tail blown away every innings.

I know he had a bad hsmstring injury and not sure he played for Surrey either.

I know we are apparently taking a Lions squad so he is likely to be in that if fit.

Its a poor squad if honest we have no chance.

England seem to have only picked two batsmen.

Watched about half an hour of an IPL game today for the first time in ages. Good fun seeing MS Dhoni roll back the years and finish it like a total boss. Do the grounds usually have an annoying cheerleader on the PA system trying to gee up the crowd or is it just a Dubai thing? I was close to muting it to be honest, can't imagine how annoying it must be in the ground.

Only Aussie commentary in the UK then.  BT aren’t sending a commentary team out, and I guess they aren’t going to pay half a dozen people to stay up all night and commentate on the feed as if they’re actually there.

Who are the Aussie commentary team these days? Mark Nicholas, Tubs, Michael Slater, Ian Healy and Warne? Have a missed anyone? It’s going to be enjoyable listening to them as England are rolled over for under hundred for the third time in the series. I assume there won’t be any international guest commentators either. Which is presumably a good thing as they’d only go and get Pietersen anyway.

It's a great decision. No one likes unfinished stories, especially one so dramatic. It was a sell-out Test too so presumably most of those with tickets will get to see the match after all.

Good news.  We might just eek out a couple of 8 wicket/300 run defeats instead of losing by an innings in every match.
