They upgraded the server, so that will work for another month or so.  Once the iPod Touch 2nd Gen full hack is out then it will go down under the strain again.

There are basically two cracks. The baseband unlocking is what allows you to use other SIM cards (i.e. unlock the phone part of the hardware), and the jailbreak allows you to install your own software (i.e. unlocks the computer part of the system).

At the moment, jailbreaking the iPhone isn't a problem with any firmware, but unlocking the baseband isn't yet possible with the 3G and the 2.2.1 firmware. The original iPhone's baseband can be changed under 2.2.1, though.

Yes you can, but it doesn't come as default by the look of things.  About halfway down in this thread is your answer.

However, the killer for you would be that your iPod, if new, will be a 2G version.  Although there is a hack out for these it's not fully workable at the moment.  You need to be a bit more patient.  You're looking for the release of something called Redsn0w.  Once this is fully released then hack away.

Anyone know where I can find a link to MyRail Lite? It doesn't appear to be on the App Store any more, and I can't find a .ipa download link through Google.

nope i'm still on the old iphone, my home town doesn't have 3g coverage so not much point

jailbreaking the 3g is just the same as the 2g one

the unlock is where the difference is, of course of you're with o2 then that not needed

Jailbreak and then look for the following (taken from a post of mine in the 'iPhone' thread):
Quote
Also added the 'iClarified' package source on Cydia and came across a nice little utility to boost the volume on the phone too.....Imaginatively called 'Volume Boost 2.2.0/2.1.0/2.0.0' depending on firmware.

Check back through this thread, I am sure someone said they had it, as it was discontinued for some reason...Should definetly be within the last four pages of this thread or the iPhone thread.

MyRail Lite has been discontinued and so isn't in the App Store.

If you have jailbroken and installed the modified MobileInstallation file which allows cracked IPAs to be put on your iPhone via iTunes then I have cracked my version which I got before the store went down... it should work fine on your iPhone.

I have already given it to safhossain03, I'm guessing it's working?

If you want this IPA give me a shout.

Can I ask why? Is it not loud enough or do you resent being told what volume you can listen to music at?

Well on my current iPod which I believe has the old EU cap ( I understand the new one is has been lowered) really isn't load at all when travelling on public transport especially the tube I can barely hear the song or podcast, at 1st I thought it was the headphone so I lashed out £70 on new Bose headphones supposedly they were noise cancelling and best in market, and even that didn't help, albeit they were lot better than iPod headphones.

Are they the over-ear ones? I've found the ones that are like earplugs are pretty good, really help to cut out sound. I can't even hear people next to me talking when I've got mine in, and I never raise the volume above half. The standard iPod ones are truly atrocious, no idea why anyone would keep them.

These are the ones I've got.

I had the same problem, when my faulty Australian model iPod Touch was replaced under warranty in the UK.  It just found it wasn't loud enough when out in places with a lot of external noise, like walking down a busy street.

You need to change this file, replacing 0.83 with 1.00
