Even by his stupidly high standards, Lucas had one hell of a game!!!

If a doubter still exists, I'd love to hear from them.

A Manc mate of mine, which sums it up really to be honest. I've given up on him.

People kept wondering how we would cope with the loss of Gerrard... the answer is Lucas Leiva.

we will never replace gerrard with one player in the same way the mancs could never replace keane.

lucas is part of the blend and that's great for a club that is all about the team and not the individual.

Fucking superb today! Id love him to add a few goals to his game! I appreciate that's not his job but I feel it'd be a deserved reward for the lad after how much he has grown into our team!

where do you get all your stats seb?  most impressive figures please keep them coming.
They're all from the Guardian Chalkboards: http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/chalkboards
I think he does that anyway. Obviously he was brilliant today but generally, he's always trying to do that and get our attacks going. It was good to see him make that run today and link up with Suarez - he's definitely got that ability from midfield.
Absolutely, I'm not saying it's a new thing.

It's just that today, well, his attacking contribution was a level you'd be happy with from a pure attacking midfielder, and he did that whilst putting in an almost literally flawless performance as a defensive midfielder. Kind of thing we were getting from Gerrard at his best, though in Gerrard's case obviously far more explosive in attack, but also never that level of dominance and control defensively.

I think today's performance could be a watershed moment for Lucas in terms of finally getting the recognition he deserves from the media and other teams fans.

(I'm not holding out much hope for the liverpool fans who still don't rate him, I think they're a lost cause)

That's because there were no tackles missed whatsoever, and a 92% pass completion rate. He played like a pitbull Xavi today.

Thought he took his performance to an even higher level today. His passing was class.

He's clearly learnt and taken so much from the likes of Xabi and Mascherano over the years.

Can't think of anyone better in his position. Genuinely.

I loved his passes that went so close to the City player that they committed to the interception and then were out of the play once they missed it. There were a few of them, none were particularly special but they were his game in a nutshell. They did exactly what they needed to.

I've said it before this guy showed balls of steel to stay & prove people wrong - even when he was being booed by our own.

Love his determination, dedication & professionalism - a shining example of what every young player at the club needs to aspire to.

Nice to see the Sky pundits praising him during and after the match...starting to get the recognition he deserves.
Pity the media still feels the need to bring up that he wasn't always the most popular figure with the fans etc., while completely ignoring their own negative views on him.

Outstanding performance from him today. He was all over the pitch, showing exactly what he can do.

Early in the 2nd half, Johnson was forced to leave a man behind him to go to the ball. Lucas immediately saw the danger and sprinted over to cover. Then his link up with Suarez showed what he can do down the other end of the pitch.
I love the way the long passes he often plays as well. Just plays it along the floor, you're sure it's going to get inctercepted, and then it's received right at the feet of a Liverpool player.
Absolute Beast.

If there's one negative aspect of his game tonight (they were showing Joe Hart highlight reel just now) it was when he played the one touch passes with Suarez charged into the box and then passed the ball to Suarez, who had to adjust in an awkward position and shoot, when Lucas had more time and more space to go for goal himself.

I've mentioned this a few times as his biggest weakness that he is such a team player that you almost get the feeling that he'd rather take on 3 players, make a 40 yard run for an assist rather than a goal.

Lucas is immense and has been for some time. In my opinion though he still hasn't reached his peak. Far from it in fact - I think there's still a lot more to come from our Mr Leiva, which is quite a frightening prospect! Today he came up against arguably the best team in the league and he bossed them all over the park. Absolutely superb performance, practically flawless.
