“If Jamie Carragher were Italian, we’d build entire dynasties around him.”

Well, the fact is, he was ours, and we did build entire dynasties around him, and they have been fucking beautiful and exciting and brilliant.

I feel like a mate is retiring today, one I could always depend upon when the going got tough, someone who would do whatever it took to win. Whilst people have been continually wetting themselves over how the next ball playing Level 3 defender is going to deal with transition, you have been getting the job done in the here and now, blocking, tackling, leading and showing something our defence is going to lack next season: passion.

They said Tommy Smith wasn't born but made, well Carra made himself. And not just good- he took his raw materials and made himself a total legend.

Good luck, Carra - you made the people happy.

For every tackle you made,
For every header you won,
For every block you stretched for,
For every goal you scored,
For every clearance you hoofed,
For every drop of sweat you shed,
For every injury you played through,
For educated Jerzy,
For THAT tackle on Nani,

It's funny how he's actually played a pretty direct role in two of our most important goals. Crossing the ball in to Mellor for the Gerrard Olympiakos strike, and playing a ball into Baros? before Gerrard won the pen for the 3rd goal in Istanbul

I know it ultimately ended with nothing, but the goal v Middlesbrough in 2008. First game of the season. 5 minutes to go Carra pops up with that. The first moment in a truly memorable season.

who art in heaven
Defending be thy name
thy hoofed clearance be done
as it is in shooting
give us you daily scream
a defenders scream
And forgive us for playing a man on

But deliver us from losing
for thine is the number 23

Hard to describe feelings, since I started to follow Liverpool in 02/03 Carra was a constant part of LFC.
Great character, things like "friendly games" does not seem to exist fo him, always 120%, uncompromising, humble, legend.
And his voice...will miss that! ;-)

Tough to see him go.

Thank you, Jamie

Absoloute legend. Been at the club longer than I've been alive. Going to be weird with him not in the squad next season as I can't remember it any other way.

Has showed in his recent run in the side that hes still more than capable but probably the right time to call it a day and go out on a high.

Pity he won't get a league medal but still an impressive trophy haul and to bow out 2nd on the list of all time LFC appearances is a fantastic achievement. Looking forward to seeing him get a great reception today now.

All the best Carra, enjoy the retirement.

Thanks for the great memories Carra. Hope you have a great last game today, and you will receive the send off you deserve. Didn't hit me how big a miss Carra is going to be until he has got back into the team since January. A truly great player and servant for this club. Hope you still stick around the club for a long time to come.

Jamie,

Thank you for your commitment, support and leadership on and off the pitch. I will be sad to see you go but I will always remember the European nights, you shouting instructions at the rear, the fantastic tackles (cheers for the studs up one on Nani), and the hilarity of watching interviews with you and the new/foreign players as they nod their heads but can not understand but one out of every four words you say.

You gave us so much to hope and dream for both as adults and young lads and lasses.

Cheers for everything and enjoy the retirement you deserve it.

Thanks for everything, we're around the same age so watching you play since the 90's has been a long journey, i'll never forget the 2001 triple season, the never say die attitude, sitting in my front room watching the FA cup final and the Uefa final in the same week, jumping around the living room when we scored two late goals, then the crazy Alaves game, just know we'd win it eventually, what a week that was,  then 2005, never cried as much than at the end, it'll never be repeated, i'm just so glad i didnt switch it off at half time, when Smicer banged in the second i've never shouted and screamed so much in my life, you've been part of the best moments i've ever had watching my beloved team, so thank you and please return in some capacity, defence coach with Sami would be perfect i think... all the best and enjoy your retirement...
