Couple of wickets today and Pakistan are 127/3 (Just 57 runs behind)

What sort of lead are we comfortable with them having?

So little threat out there at all, thought the young spinner was decent though, at least something different

Pakistan playing this moving ball so much better than England
A win for the Liverpool country

These are playing beautifully. Shame Shafiq is 32, if he was 24 Pakistan would have a ridiculous player on their hands.

Pakistan have had a few lucky moments, but they’ve earned their luck.

England are suffering because of poor captaincy, sloppy fielding and impatience. This should be a wake up call, but I wonder whether it turns out to be; Gus Fraser was very defensive on last night’s Verdict, Bob Willis, curmudgeon though he undoubtedly is, took no prisoners and called it right - essentially a shambles.

I think this match might be gone. Very likely they're going to have a lead of at least 100-150.

Not yet.

A 100 lead is not insurmountable.

They're 5 down and 43 in front and England have the new ball in 1 overs time.

Massive session this one.

I tend to agree, but if Stokes keeps spraying it around it ain’t happening. For such a universally lauded cricketer, he’s awfully erratic.

That's all well and good but our batting is dogshit, can't see us overhauling their lead and setting them a big enough target.

Kinell but England have been shite in the field.

That’s to go with their batting and to a degree, bowling.

Root hasn't had a good game so far, in all departments. Pakistan have shown us how to bat, leaving wide balls alone, protecting their wicket, playing mostly the right shot.
The bowled better than us and fielded better than us.
We just haven't matched them in any aspect of the game so far, they just look better prepared.

They’ve actually had a better preparation for this than pretty much our whole team. Fair play to them, getting what they deserve for taking it seriously.

England players had played 7 matches less in total this summer than the Pakistan XI.

The talent level of the England team just isn't that high and there isn't loads of great players waiting in the wings. Jennings for Stoneman is the only nailed on change I'd make. Really though, there isn't much for Ed Smith to pick from, next to no middle order batsmen banging on the door and threadbare bowling stocks. This is going to be a lean period for us, we're not a quality test cricket nation anymore and won't be for a few years.

Strauss said as much in his TMS interview yesterday. He pretty much admitted (from my interpretation) that the ECBs goal for ODI brilliance has been at the expense of the Test team. I don't mind enormously as these things can be generational and steeped in luck. As long as the ECB doesn't use it as an excuse to let the format die.

Where's the incentive for players to want to play 4 day cricket to try and get in the test team though? Players contracted by the ECB earn quite a bit in comparison to other nations I think, but it's still not nearly as much as hired T20 guns can get playing around the world. If you're a very good limited overs player and a middling first class player do you really want to slog it out at New Road in the summer when you could be playing in a carnival atmosphere in Kingston? Expect to see more players join Rashid and Hales. It's a huge problem and one that is very difficult to fix.

It’s disgraceful. The English cricketing public wants a strong Test team. The grounds are always full for Test matches. It’s where we measure greatness. The ECB should recognise this and get its priorities right.

botham mentioning the toss again. I can't see why that's relevant to 111-6 on what looks to be a batting day.

Not quite sure why the ICC organised a schedule where Pakistan get one warm up test against a better side than the one they're playing in two tests, but there you go.
