Didn't think too much of Lee Mason in our game tonight either.

Rodwell getting away with this was particularly frustrating: http://itsgoneviral.com/watch-jack-rodwell-filthiest-tackle-far-year/

The man is an absolute embarrassment, I'd have been surprised if he didn't fuck something up.

Yeah, they're all shit. Mason is probably the worst in my book. But the FA have effectively silenced criticism. Managers can't call a shite referee a shite referee, nor call a shite refereeing performance a shite refereeing performance, because they'll get fined and/or banned. I think the FA took a leaf out of North Korea's book there

This is it, the FA are making it so easy for refs to bottle decisions or make stupid ones and there is no consequence.

They need help, yes, but they also need to be able to explain decisions. If someone makes a bad tackle and the ref thinks otherwise as his view was obstructed or he felt the ball was touched etc, let him say that, otherwise people just think he's an incompetent twat
We already have shit in the country, and the game of Liverpool fills life with joy. Thanks

You don't think? Looked like borderline assault to me ;D

Every time I play it, it lags at the same point, just as he's about to make contact. So it looks just like a cynical trip, rather than the worst tackle of the year which that site claims it to be. As I said though, could just be the bad quality of the video

Maybe it's just a bad quality video, but that doesn't look red card worthy?

I wouldn't say it was excessive force or brutality, he's never breaking anyone leg with it, but it's just really really cynical, unnecessary and with a bit of shithousery thrown in. Xhaka was sent off for something similar earlier in the season.

Be easy to solve this.

Throw them in a media press conference with only the teams managers allowed to ask the questions.

With video replays of the incidents appearing in front of them and for the world to see.

They'd soon start making better decisions.

On the replays the ball is barely in shot! Wish we were that cynical at times. Like something you see at the local 5 a side when someone's been embarrassed once too often.

That wouldn't make any difference, they're not deliberately making the errors, it's just that the standard of refereeing is pretty low at the moment.  Players don't help though, literally every single player cheats throughout the game, calling for thrown-ins that they know aren't theirs, going down with the slightest touch, etc.  It's a tough job at the best of times without people actively trying to con you constantly.
Sit down, shock is better taken with bent knees.

Are our refs any worse than the continent? I don't watch a lot but I am not impressed by the standard anywhere else and overall I prefer ours.  For example the Barca goal a meter over the line this weekend.

Many things that I didn't like about Clattenburg yesterday but, apart from the decisions, I just find it amazing that he is doing the game while chewing gum. The job of a referee is meant to be a position of responsibility. I wouldn't expect to go to my kids parents evening and the teacher be chewing gum while he talked to me nor would I expect a policeman or similar to do it so I don't know why he thinks it is ok. It's a small thing but it just gives the wrong impression in my opinion.

Just coz we play shite it doesn't mean the ref is good. Mignolet shat himself at the first goal but their offside player was jumping into him. Neither offence picked up.

Manchester United fan Antony Taylor wins the award for worst ref this season.

Yesterdays 'performance' was incredible. That's probably the worst I've seen from any ref in 40 odd years of going to the game.

Usually don't complain about refs and it's usually seen as a sour grapes type gripe but that ref yesterday was disgraceful.

Hate seeing him ref our games.

I know people will point fingers at his agent - starting with the talk of interest from China - but you have to blame Mike Riley for not nailing him down with a long-term contract.  Letting him leave on a free is ludicrous.

I never understand why we don't employ foreign refs, I mean quite obviously the level of refereeing in this country is getting worse and it doesn't appear that anyone who can do something about it actually wants to.

I do quite like Clattenburg, I guess with refs you only remember the last game and form your opinion that way but I've seen him a fair bit live and he's much better than the majority.
If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.
